Talking Can we keep him? (pic heavy)

So there I was, planting beans, when the dogs brought home a new friend. Not sure where the doe was....if she's smart, she was hiding from my gruesome twosome.

Mom! look! a new friend!

Oh my! Wonderful photos. I sure hope the little fawn was able to reunite with the mom.

I'm pretty sure the fawn will find it's mom. the area is heavily wooded, lots of undergrowth. lots of appletrees. lots of grain. LOTS of deer. Doubtful that the doe went very far to forage. Fawn took off down the tractor road bleeting like a sheep after I corralled the dogs. I'll keep a look out for the fawn tomorrow, tho. Just in case.

Thanks for the comments on the pics.

I, too, hope all will be well with the baby. I know what everyone says about the mama not being too far away but I would still be really worried.

Just curious, though, is your one dog an English setter? We had those when I was growing up so I have a soft spot for them. Also, they're not real common. (At least around here.)

The white dog (reggie) is aussie cattle dogxhuskyxshepherd. She was herding the fawn, but with, er, energy. the other dog (sadie) was really more herding the fawn. Wouldn't let the fawn get past, but did it from a couple feet distance. Kind of surprised me.

Yes, the black/white dog is an english setter. hunting stock, but altho she's very birdy, she's terrified of explosions like gunshot or fireworks. Never stops moving while we're out at the farm. She's the one that flushed the fawn in the first place.

The fawn looks scared to me in the last two photos. Do you think s/he was afraid or just baffled by the dogs?

Fawns are so cute! They cross our property often, but, your pictures are closer than I have ever gotten to ours. Nice that your dogs did not injure the fawn. Our terrier and doxie would have chased him to the next county!

hehe. scared? well, probably a bit, but What I didn't get a picture of was the fawn headbutting Reggie (the white dog). Fawn would put it's head down and just CHARGE the dogs. bowled Sadie (40 lbs) over and could push Reggie away about 4 ft.

I'm sure the dogs would have persisted until the fawn was exhausted if I hadn't pulled them away, but dang....that fawn is one feisty little critter.

What a beautiful picture of the fawn. I find it just awesome to see the dogs and fawn together in the one pic. Thanks for posting them.

Fantastic photos. I'm glad there's a decent chance that the fawn reunited with mom.

I agree! Great photos! Not to sabotage your thread, but what kind of camera do you have?

Peace,

.
It may look like fun but it is not fun for the deer and it's mother.

The baby deer is not playing it is trying to defend itself, and it is in fear of the unknown.

The dogs should be put up so the doe will come in and get the fawn.

Put your self in the place of the fawn and being forced by two bigger animals to leave mothers protection.

Many does will leave a fawn like this and not return and the fawn dies.

Same thing with wild rabbits and baby birds.
