Just had to share!

I just had to share these photos. They were taken today. I had one of these come jumping down off of a rise almost on top of my hood! They are called Aoudad (ah-dad). They are an imported species from Africa. The parks department would love to get rid of them since they compete with native species for food....but it sure is awesome to see a mountain full of em!

Wow, those are really great pix, thanks for posting them. I guess the ewes stay together and the males go off after breeding season? Don't know a lot about them.

It's amazing how green things still are out there.

And I like your sig line, are you going to use that on the sign at your barber shop? "Best Barber In Town. In Fact, The ONLY Barber In Town" or 'Best Barber West of the Pecos' or something like that. :baby04:

Do they allow hunting of the Aoudad, or is the park closed to hunting?

...............This species is probably better adapted too the hi desert than possibly the desert big horn sheep . With more food sources mountain lions And Jaguars will maintain a presence in the Big Bend park area like they use too many years previous . , fordy...

Excuse me if this is dumb, but are those curved ears or horns? Old womans eyesight not so good and I could not tell. They appear to be very beautiful and I am wondering why I never heard anything about them when I lived in southeast arizona? Maybe everyone was too busy worrying about the red squirrel and the telescopes LOL sis

Where in Terlingua Ranch did you see those at? Or was it some place else?

There is no season on them at all...shoot all you want. If it is an imported species the state of Texas doesn't regulate them. That's how they got introduced to this area in the first place. These hunt ranches will import animals from India and Africa to stock their places with because you can hunt them year round with no limits. Aoudads aren't the only exotic animal you will see running around here. The other day I saw a pair of antelopes with really long spiraling horns running along the side of the road. The parks department would love to see the Aoudad wiped out since they compete with the native mule deer.

Nope this wasn't taken on the Terlingua Ranch....it was taken in the Big Bend state park. I could hear the roar of the Rio Grande behind me while I was taking the pictures. The males were on the Rio side of the road from the females when we came through and the one almost jumped on top of us. The folks managing the Terlingua Ranch have just about gotten rid of all the wildlife there. They tore up all the natural and man made water holes. Animals won't go where there is no water. Sore subject and I won't start a rant here.

Hehehehe I thought about it. There is technically another barber or two west of the Pecos. Speaking of which....that is a really awesome place. Hmmm might have a picture...I'll look.

Found it! I was about 4-5 stories up from the water on top of the cliff when I took this.
