Cleaning a washing machine?

I have really heavy water and I need to clean my washing machine. It's an extra capacity so whatever is used, will be used in quantity. Would vinegar work? The minerals in the machine are leaving spots on my clothes....And the laundromat is costing me a bloody fortune.

CLR should work better than vinegar.

Vinegar will work. Make sure if you use something like CLR that you do an extra rinse or two since the compounds that remove rust can also damage red clothing depending on the dye makeup.
