The last rental is gone burned to the ground

We finally got rid of it the fire department used it for a all day training class yesterday and its just a pile of smoking ashes this morning.
We tried selling it, giving it away, nothing worked so it is no longer a problem. We have no rentals, we do hold morgages on two houses but hope they can all get their own financing and we will not be the bank anymore.
Will call and have a loader and dumptrucks to get the concrete sidewalks and concrete porche and clean up the ashes and nails from the house, plant the acreage with trees and try to forget we ever had 32 rental houses.

From a former landlord, smart move. The trees you plant won't pester you to death and tear up your property.

Two of the happiest days of my life are when I bought a small apartment unit and when I sold it.

Rental property has been problematic for me too. It always cost me more to put a house back together than I got out of it from income. It takes a certain disposition to be a landlord, one that I don't have.

Congratulations and enjoy the trees!

My MIL has some rental properties in new mexico. The stories she tells about her renters are horrific. She regularly takes tenants to court. Sometimes she even gets paid...but not usually. Even the ones she thinks are nice, good, God fearing Christians turn out to be worthless.

One lady, active in church, always paid her rent, taught elementary school in the area....The last month she was there, she didn't pay rent...MIL didn't think much about it..figured the lady was good for it..MIL went to chat with the lady about the rent from the last month...and the house had been striped bare. All the plumbing, cabinets, stove, fridge, cupboards...everything was gone. Even the door knobs. Neighbor told MIL the lady who had been renting the place had a big pickup truck and just hauled things away.

There is no way we'd ever rent anything to anyone. The lawyer fees for the murder trial would be too costly.

Its rotten renters that give all renters a bad name. I am a good tenant. I keep the place clean, cut the grass, remove the snow (including the sidewalks), plant flowers make minor repairs such as uncloging drains and patching bare spots in the lawn, conserve water, and take care not to damage anything. I also report hazards to the landlord such as an almost rusted through front railing. I am patient when they want to use qualified friends even though that means waiting. I pay my rent on time and in cash.
