Carpenter Ants, how can I stop them?

I have noticed that there are carpenter ants in my garage due to saw dust on the car and I have seen the ants walking up the studs. A have heard that you can make a paste from Borax and sugar and water that will kill them. Has anyone ever tried this? What is the ratio? Anything else I can do to stop them? Thanks Chris

Tough little rascals. Borax has no effect on Carpenter Ants.
Check this site for some good information.http://www.pestcontrolcanada.com/get...enter_ants.htm

also check for sources of water. maybe you have leaks somewhere. i have heard that carpenter ants need a source of water nearby. it could mean a leaky roof, etc.

Hate these things.
Childhood incident (think covered in 'em). I have yet to get over the paralyzing fear they give me. I go organic on dang near everything but when it comes to these, I'll use whatever it takes. Anything. Everything. Cocktail it if I have to. (not advisable)

Carpenter Ants don't really eat wood; they simply make their nests in soft and/or rotting wood. Sounds like you have a leak somewhere that needs attention. Fix the problem, spray the ants, and no more ants.

It could also be powder post beetles in addition to ants.

Terro ant killer used to contain strychnine. The ingredient now is boric acid.
Mix 5% with powdered sugar 95% for sweet eating ants. Substitute vegtable oil for grease eating variety.
