Thinking caps needed

I'm trying to build a non electric incubator for hatching turkey, chicken, and guinea eggs. I've got a lamp that I was wanting to use but it's being a pain in the butt. When I light it the fire starts out normal but then about 15 - 20 minutes later the flame goes down to where the little adjuster knob is. What the heck is wrong with this thing. Should I buy a whole new top for this lamp?

since I have no idea how you are encapsulating this lamp/./ Is it getting plenty of fresh air for the flame?

I have no idea what you are talking about, but it sounds real interesting. Can you post pics of your setup? I'd like to learn more about it and maybe make one myself.

How do you plan to control the tempature with a oil lamp? I use a oil lamp to keep the brooder warm but never thought about using one for a incubator. Sounds like your wick is going dry for some reason-----Is it to short, not going down into the oil. Randy

As far as I can tell it is. I have it on top of my woodstove (no the stove isn't burning right now). All my other lamps are burning fine around the house. I've had lamps sitting on the stove before so I know it's not so much a lack of oxygen in that area.
The design of my box will have the lamp sitting next to it and the heat will be caught in a small elbow to a wood stove that enters into the box kind of trapping the heat.

Sure I can post some pics I took this evening. I post in the morning though when I'm at my parents. I'm still in the building part. I was just testing out this lamp to see how many days before the oil runs down and needs to be refilled. Of course I will be watching it but I was wonderinig about this.

This was a part of what I was trying to run it for. I wanted to learn how high a flame I needed and also how to control it to the most benefit.
The wick is brand new, I just put it in this morning. The lamp was filled as well this morning so it's been absorbing the oil all day. I've never had a lamp do this.

Hot air comes out the bottom of your refridgerator and freezer. Burns my feet in the summer. (we've never had air conditioning) I would think using that air maybe would work. Of course you have to keep the fridge and freezer being able to breath there somehow. Just a thought.
