Question In Home Insect repellant?

Hi, I house/pet-sit for a nice lady. I stay at her house when I do since she has an old dog that needs close attention. Anyway...The house is kind of icky and she doesn't do any pest control. The cats do take care of the mice however.. Now, I am not a scardy-cat person. But I do have my limitations.
What I want is some ideas of what to use or put down to repel the crawly bugs away or kill them outright. Mostly "stinkbugs and spiders. I have woke up and found some crawling on the bed..eeeeek! I do spray some bug killer around the room, ( sad to say I resort to that) but it doesn't keep them from crawling out of the cracks into the room. ***I know she just needs to do a couple of Bug Bombs and get rid of most everything in the house. but she won't..soooo Have to do some"local antiseptic application"..
Appreciate any suggestions

Put boric acid powder along the edges of the baseboards. Most critters don't like boric acid because it looks like tiny glass shards under magification. It cuts them when they crawl on it. You can also make a boric acid/water mix and spray it around.

You can get boric acid at the drugstore or Wal Mart type place.

Orange oil products work also.

First and most important, I see you're caring for a old dog--be REAL careful what you put down to kill insects.
