Help! Is this a good deal on this tractor??

Obviously, it depends on some factors, but what do you think at first glance?
We've never bought a tractor -
We have 5.5 acres & plan to plow, mow, etc.

THANKS!

Used 2004 New Holland TC30

way too much that is their lowline compact you could almost buy new for that price and get it at close to 0% financing right size for your needs though. check out new ones kubota or john deere would be better than agco which is what new holland massey and allis are now.

The dealers are offering 0% for certain terms and that makes the payments pretty close to the payments for a used one.

That would be a great unit for your needs, but shop around alot. Have you priced the same one new for comparison?

Theres a Ferguson tractor (like a 8n) on Ebay right now near you, do a search and you should find it, 3 point hitch and gear splitter so you can plow with it, $1300 buy it now, it's in western NY. It's not mine so I'd check it out before buying it, but it will do a lot of work for cheap money.

I recently checked out a kioti.

I have been around tractors all my life.. I will say I was impressed with the fit and finish. That says a lot about a piece of equipment.. Some of these imported tractors the casting is so crude you will get cut just looking at em..

Back to the question. That is to high of a price tag

heather, if I am reading it correctly the listed price is $12,900.
Given that it is a diesel engine, has 4WD, and the loader is a factory matched
unit, I feel it is a reasonably good value. 400 hours on a tractor is roughly equivalent to buying a car with 12,000 miles on it.
New Holland is a reputable brand and has many dealers for parts and service support.
If you are financing the Lion's share of the purchase, what the other posters have said about payments on new being close to the same "may" be true. You would really have to do price comparison on apples to apples brand new with same features and horsepower to have a valid comparison.

I would view any used tractor offered the same as buying a used truck or car. First inspect thoroughly for any defects. Try everything. Every gear, all loader movements, lights, brakes, etc. If they are asking $12,900, I would offer them 88 percent of that or $11,350 and slowly increase my offer until they come down to meet you somewhere in the middle. If they are unwilling to substantially reduce price, I would negotiate for services such as free delivery or a new oil filter and oil for first oil change. Or all of the above, LOL.
If it meets your needs and your budget, then it is a good deal.

That seems cheap for a good Fergie. I bet it will go close to $3000. I would rather have that than a new tractor, but then again I do all the work on it myself. For the price difference between a new tractor and my 8N I have bought implements, used snowmobiles and a used ATV.

Deal or No Deal

I'm with Up North and think that it is a reasonable deal.

The loader is a quick attach unit meaning it can be removed in just a couple of minutes and reinstalled in the same. That adds value and makes the tractor much more convenient for other uses at times. Two bolts removed and four hydraulic quick connectors is all it takes for removal and installation.

The bucket is straight and the paint in it seems good as do the tires.

I think a unit like this would sell in the neighborhood of $18,000 new. I may be off as I have been out of the loop of tractor prices for awhile.

I agree with Up North and Wendy. It's not that bad of a deal. It's a hydro transmission, which adds value (although I personally don't prefer them). That being said, I think the advice about checking out new units with zero financing to see how it compares with the used is very sound. You get a new warranty, and even if you plan on paying cash, you can just put your money in the bank and earn interest as you pay down the zero interest loan.

I own a Kubota and love it, but I'd recommend buying from a dealership that is local and can service your machine as needed. I think John Deere, NH, Massey, and Kubota hold their value better for resale, but if you plan on keeping the tractor for a while, there are some up and coming brands like Kioti, Mahindra, and Branson that you might want to consider. With these tractors you often get more bang for your buck...and they usually carry a good warranty too.

Best wishes.

The Ford or Harry Ferguson similar like 9N,2N,8N were ahead of there time on features and operator ease of operation - but that was 1939-1950ish!
These tractors are roughly 55 to 68 years old. Metal Fatigue has to play a role at some point. Still handy little units and fun to drive, yes. But they cannot hold a candle to capability or joy of operating a modern compact tractor with 4WD, powerful hydraulics, joystick loader controls, quick attach loaders and wide assortment of attachments.
Personally in the Ford line I prefer the model 860 utility with the 2-stage clutch which mimics live pto power, but that's just me .

New Kubota price

Just bought a new Kubota L-3400 with Fel and hydro drive for 17000.
Thats 34 hp engine and 27.5 pto.0% financing for 36 mos.

That TC30 is not that bad a deal, but financing might put the payments up some.Good luck.

Kubotas are a good trator too. Just curious does the price for your L-3400 include 4WD? Also, what is warranty coverage on a new Kubota?

It does include 4-wheel drive.I believe about all the compacts are 4-wheelers now,all the ones I have seen are.
The warranty is 2 years on everything except expendables and I think, not sure, but maybe 3 yrs on drive train.I had a Kubota for 15 years and NEVER had to fix anything on it.So I bought another.Man these little tractors are strong.

My 2004 Kubota had a three year warranty, and they were offering the interest free financing deal that year too. So far, knock on wood, it's been a perfect machine.

Well, don't get into trouble with the Boss, but if you let her drive it, maybe that'll swing the deal!

I buy "junk" that may look sad but works fine. Last time I paid over $1,000 for any piece of farm equipment, it was for my tractor loader in 1993, and that was $1,100.

I would rather buy a rusty piece of useable equipment for cash than make payments any day, interest or not. That's cuz a payment is future money gone from my pocket, every payday, til it is done. Paying cash for something useable means I get to keep all that future money for something else.

There are tons of diesel tractors that are maybe twice what the example shown is, for around $5,000 and often with a loader, to boot.

In my opinion, the best place to get a tractor is at an on-farm auction. Study what you are after, and go to a few til you hit the right crowd where you can buy at your price.

That is incorrect.
Massey-Harris-Ferguson & Allis Chalmers may be part of Agco, but, New Holland is not.
