I love my pond, it is a great source of wildlife and entretainment. It is filled with little fishes and at least 1 soft shelled turtle. I had decided to stock it with fish such as tilapia and catfish for personal use, but i read on another post about septic lagoons. What are they? is that what i have? is it safe to keep fish for personal consumption in such a pond? on the back of my property there's a cannal and i see people fishing on those all the time, so i figure its the same thing?

Don't you worry about alligators? I wouldn't have a pond in that area because I would be afraid that it would attract them. Fish I don't mind. Turtles (even snapping turtles), but when it comes to "enjoying the wildlife" I draw the line at alligators.
PS I have never known anyone who had fish in a septic lagoon. I assume that they could live there (if it was large enough), but the idea doesn't appeal to me much.
