Southwestern New Mexico questions

Could any you that live in the Southwestern part of New Mexico please pm me. We are looking to move down there and I'd like to get names of some realtors. Not having much luck online with things that aren't way out of our price range.

Looking for somewhere in or around Las Cruces.

Thanks!

Deb in New Mexico

PS: we decided not to move back East.

Deming is really affordable. Don't know where that is compared with Las Cruces.

Deming is about 60 miles west of Las Cruces and about the same distance east of Lordsburg along I-10.

Deming is not the end of the Earth but you can see the end from there.

There is an interesting community between Deming and the Mexican border, called Columbus that consists of some very innovative housing.

Thanks ya'll. We're going to take the weekend and drive to Las Cruces and look around. It's been years since we were there.

And Deming........every time we've been there we noticed the wind was blowing. After living here in SE NM the past 3 years I wonder if it could blow worse in Deming. Deming may be where we end up for a while. Wonder how hard it would be to find somewhere with water and electric already in place?? Seems that most of those inexpensive lots for sale are just raw land.

We're also looking in the T&C, Hatch, & Silver City areas if anyone knows about those places. Pretty much anywhere within about 50 miles of Las Cruces but not on the El Paso or southern sides. We're looking to rent a small place or buy a lot, or some acreage where we can put an RV.

and Obser - where ya'll been hiding the past while?? Haven't seen you around a lot.

We were looking at SW NM too and found that Silver City is getting pricey because it's the new perfect place to retire: Perfect weather, perfect sized city, perfect distance from larger shopping areas, perfect golf, perfect scenery... It's beautiful in that area, so I was bummed.

There's also some great hiking in the Gila Wilderness, which is near Silver City.

Grants isn't bad either. Being on the interstate has it's good points and bad. We looked into Deming once. A little too bleak for my taste. I'm told the soil is very fertile if watered. Lots of volcanic rocks. Chose carefully and choose well. Those little farmette developments in Deming can be usually had for back taxes. Check with the tax assessor's office to see what you can pick up that way. Probably can get two or three together for less than $5,000 but I don't know what the water/electricity status is.

I'd check with the local water authority to see what you can use water for. I know in Colorado there are heavy restrictions on what you can do with the water. No outside gardens, no washing cars, etc. You can't even save grey water for watering. I'd check with them to be sure your water useage needs will be met.

Keep us posted.
