How do I keep the woodpeckers from pecking on my siding?

I am just putting up my wood siding and the woodpecker is starting to peck at it, what can I do stop the woodpecker, I have seen what one did to another house with wood siding and he made a mess of it. Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks Chris

We had the very large pilated woodpeckers under our carport, pecking for carpenter bees. Got rid of the bees and the peckers stay away, but what a mess they made! It shouldnt be a problem in new siding unless its an old house and the bees are in the wall. Hope you find the solution.

Cornell University has a nice "birding" site and has information on what to do with woodpecker problems.
