A different direction, a homesteading hiatus?
Hi all, just wanted to share some things that are happening on our homefront.
We are entering a new phase in our lives. We are moving to NW PA to start a church. This is what is called a "church plant" as we will continue to receive limited support (a small monthly amount) and will seek support from other like-minded independent Baptist churches.
I've always felt called to rural/small town people as far as ministry and life goes. For those who aren't familiar with church planting this runs contrary to most folks who seek high population areas in urban and suburban settings.
It is hard to start a church in an urban/suburban area and in many ways it is even harder where the population density is lower. As to "why" we are starting a church in the NW PA area, that will be something I will cover in a new blog as the simple answer is "God told us to." but the longer answer is probably the one people would want to know, argue, or debate.
We know we are going to end up in the Pittsfield/Youngsville area, as I have went over and spent some time there researching rural areas that are in need of vibrant, Bible-believing churches.
So as we begin this great, mysterious journey we aren't even sure if the house we buy will have any acreage or not. We are praying it does and hoping that we can continue in our homesteading endeavors. We do have plants planted for a garden, but I am not sure of our schedule and whether the garden will be able to be weeded like it should.
We wills still be canning/growing/prepping, etc. as it's pretty much a core of who we are as people, but our main focus will be planting/growing/and prepping followers of Christ.
After we get settled in we will be able to pursue our homesteading dreams but right now it's all unsettled as we don't know where we will live (housewise), whether it will have the land we would like, or whether it will be more fruitful for us to buy an "in town" house at first and land later (quite possible).
So although it seems as if a "step backward" for homesteading we are excited and know God blesses faithfulness. Please keep up in your prayers. There is so much to do (we've been busy) before we go anywhere.

Good luck. I hope you'll be more kind with your parishoner's questions than you have been with mine.

Bob
I'd like to wish you blessings and luck, also!
Remember, even the smallest town home will have room for raised beds around the perimeter. Grow lettuce, peas, tomatoes and other high priced items.
Be Well

Going off to do missanary work in a different place
I know moving to a different area is the standard way to do missinary work, such as starting a new church I have a problem with it.
I have lived here on the farm for 22 years the wife and I have been married for 14 of those years. We have visited all the churches around and there are several and different kinds. Have done that several times each. And all of them have active missinary programs. A couple of them make trips to other countries to build a church each year.
But we have never had a visit from any of these churches, never a invite from anyone at the churches. When we visit they are freindly, happy to see us all that but never a visit or anyone that even makes a phone call to invite us back.
Seems most need to do a little work in their own neighbor hood. They are loosing members as they die off but no one cares about the new people that move in to the area.
I have major health problems and know I will probably leave a widow that the local churches will never contact. Before we married in another state she was a very active church member and worked in her church and even after 14 years we are contacted by her previous church almost every month. There is four churches with in a mile of our house. We don't need more churches we just need some with a little Christian we care.
Sorry for the rant but its just my opinion.

Hey, if we lived in NW PA we'd be charter members of your new church! Best of luck and God's blessings on your new, exciting venture. Please keep us updated. We'll keep you in our prayers.

I hope you are successful.
Is it more appropriate to say "Good luck!" or "Good faith!"?
I wish you both.
And though you might not have your own large homestead for a while, I believe homesteading is deep in your heart.

May God be with you in this endeavor. Please post your blog link when you get it set up. Do you have a prayer card or brochure yet?

Where are you headed in NW PA? I have friends in McKean county. The area is fairly homestead friendly. My goal is to end up there eventually.

HI;
I am happy to hear that there are preachers out there who realize that "homesteading people" is ultimately more important than homesteading in the conventional sense.
The fields that you will be overseeing are far more important and the harvest will last through eternity. My prayer is that the seeds of Truth you plant will fall on good soil and many will be lead to the Lord and nutured in the church.
Godspeed.

Good luck ZYG. Sorry to see you leaving the immediate neighborhood. I guess I'll just have to consider you a neighbor a little further down the road <G>.

Well, I figure when you move down to the farm it won't be much different except we are east instead of west!
