Water sanitation

Is anybody using a UV system to sanitize their drinking water?
Just got the price from the water dept to extend city water to our cabin site...looks like I will be using a spring.

I use it for my cistern and for the well at the rental house. Works great! Just make sure you get a big enough light. If you buy from a pond supply place they are made out of plastic instead of stainless steel and a whole lot cheaper. Same bulb, does the job!

We use a UV system on our well to feed two houses and the whole dairy operation. We have to have perfect water at all times or we can lose our dairy license, so far it works great.

I doubt that mine are NSF. They are are Rainbow models. The company was recently bought by another, so there maybe a name change. About $200 for the one in my house and $150 for the one in the rental house (smaller pump, so smaller light). New bulbs run $60?? once a year.

Just ran a water test at work. Read it this morning. No bacteria growth!

UV disinfection of water is quite common in Europe. My city was looking into building a new water plant, a couple years ago, and we looked into it then. Pretty expensive to do on a large scale so the city skipped it.

Works pretty slick! What I like about it for home use, is it doesn't matter how much water you use, you don't have to remember to add chemicals, just change a blub every 8 to 10 months. As long as they leave it plugged in there is nothing my renters can mess up.

Just google UV water treatment, there is lots of stuff out there.
