Running along like a Swiss Watch...

A punishing NorthEaster descended on us, dropping twelve inches of wet, heavy snow on top of the mud. Plowed the farm lane for the milk truck, cleaned the barn and promptly buried the spreader tractor to the axles.
Abandoned ship, did the evening chores and then delivered a new heifer calf about 11 at night.
The roads were drifting shut by the time I headed for home. Had to hit it hard to make it through the snowdrifts, and the road was bumpy enough that the pickup tailgate latch popped open and the gate dropped down. Hit another bump just as I was entering yard, and tailgate broke the one remaining cable and fell on the ground.
During a snowstorm here you always turn around and be positioned to drive straight out for the next morning, So I put the truck in reverse, and backed right over the tailgate. Shiny side up, of course
Five hours later I was back to the farm to plow out road for milktruck. A brand new Volvo Milk truck came up the lane just fine, but then got stuck, so I pulled him out.
Then there was the barn cleaning. Said a little prayer to Poopalotpolous(The Greek God of cow manure removal) and hit the barn cleaner switch. It immediately rolled a barn cleaner corner wheel. So today I called in the Calvary, and had my neighbor come and help me put in a new corner wheel. That went so well we went ahead and put in all three corner wheels new. Got the barn mucked out(picture ten gallons of cow manure in a five gallon bucket, LOL) and did the chores all over again.

And what will tomorrow bring?

What a GREAT day!

By the way, all platitudes aside.........

American-Made "Railroad-Certified" watches were FAR BETTER timekeepers than the Swiss watches! (Names like Illinois, Waltham, Hamilton, Elgin, etc.)

Have some BETTER DAYS!

Up North, I feel so much better. I had a two hour visit from my NEW milk inspector yesterday. Words to strike terror into any dairy farmer's heart. Of course he has a totally different way of looking at things than the old one, so now there's a whole new list of things to watch out for, most of which have been that way for 20 years or more but he wants things different. *sigh. I want my old inspector back!!

Sorry to hear about the tailgate. Mine is only held on by one cable, too, and I've been meaning to get it replaced. You may have just provided the incentive. Looks like a visit to the J.C. Whitney website is in order.

Jennifer

The old saying: What doesn't kill ya makes ya stronger, seems to fit here!

A couple more weeks of disaster management and I should be qualified to head up FEMA ,LOL. .
Jennifer L - Hear that on the inspector. Ours is a reasonable person who is nearing retirement. We, too, dread the day an eager beaver fresh grad with more book than common sense steps on the farm.

I took a couple of short films of hubbies adventures. I only wish I could of gotten a movie of when he hooked on to the back of the milktruck trailer and pulled it sideways. That was sort of neat to watch.
