Zinzer Sealant for Ceiling problem

Thanks again to all who answered my farmhouse ceiling thread. A friend of mine just called and happens to be in another town at in Menards. He said they have the Zinzer sealant. But they only have the water based.

Water based Kilz hasn't kept it from bleeding through. Will Water based Zinzer be any better?

I think they are about the same. We had water spots that primer would not fix - wended up puttingon a layer of joint compound, then primer , then paint.

The product is Zinsser Bullseye 123 Primer Sealer -- the best stain killer available IMO -- I do not work for the company or own stock, but have used it professionally. It is generally available at HD or Lowe's

The water based sealers tends to bleed through. The oil / shellac versions work better. In a pinch, a good spray paint will work...you'll need a few coats to cover the stain. Spray paint leaves a smoother finish than that applied with a brush or roller so remember to lightly sand the final coat or you'll see 'flash' after the top coat is applied. Flash is when you can see the area that was repaired because of the different texture of the undercoat. Hope that helps.
