Tools: Men vs, Women

This is a topic that has been on my mind lately due to us building on and remodeling. Why is it that so many people buy over priced tools? I just gotta say that Womens tools do a better job than mens in so many areas. Mans tool. Paint edger. aprox amatly 4.00 at harware store. A woman can pick up 4 dust pans that will do the same job for that price at the dollar store. I saw a paint mixer for $6.00. I used a 3@100 whisk and it worked better than the paint mixer would have. I put the end in my coedless drill and mixed the paint very quickly. We have been cutting styrofoam sheet insulation. My husband was using a utility knife. The blade got coated and it was hard to make it cut. I got out a little culanary knife with fine seration. It became the tool that was grabbed when cutting was needed. I have used a cake iceing spatula for spreading mud. A .50 plastic strainer works great to strain the lumps out of mud. There is no telling how many times I have turned to my kitchen gadget drawer when needing a tool. A pastry cutter is wonderful for mixing morter.

What is the old story? A man will buy a $1.00 item for $2.00 simply because he wants it. A woman will buy a $2.00 item for $1.00 simply because it is on sale.

women can also take apart and put together things too! my dw works in a waste water plant and a potable water plant, when something breaks, she is the one they look to to fix it from prv,s in the gas system too the pewter in the office. she also has a good selection of tools at home both for wood, mechanical and metal. she also uses kitchen utensils from time too time as well! and not just for cooking! give her the job then stand clear.

It just seem like such a shame that so many kitchen gadgets work for DIY jobs and either Men don't know about these kitchen gadgets or the woman isn't a handyman.

Or maybe its because the Sink Goddess gets all huffy when you use her sharpest knife to open a steel can, or use one of her Grandmas case knives for a pry bar?? This is only a guess. I wouldn't to a party to such stuff.

Or when the guy uses the good measuring cups for plaster and guess who gets to scrape it off?
And why are all my steak knives in the shed??

This thread reminds me of the "Family Circus" cartoon where the Dad is asked by one of the kids if he is using a Daddy screwdriver or a Mommy screwdriver (butter knife).

Cause they're made in the USA. At least that is why I by them.

O...and the lifetime guarantee is nice also.

We women used to be able to fix anything with a bobby pin and a wad of bubble gum. Now that we're older & wiser we've progressed to the kitchen and have become more creative. We want that tool money for clothes and shoes!

I'm the toolie in my family. DH once used my Fiskar loppers purchased in Germany (and never since replaced) to try to cut some bolts. After 3 weeks I finally broke down and asked (I hate the old "Mom where are my shoes?!?" whine and try not to do it to DH) him, the nongardener, if on the off chance he might have seen it somewhere not that he would have. He confessed his sin, said he couldn't find any replacement in the 4 stores he'd looked, and showed me my precious loppers with the 3 times 1/2 cm deep gashes in the curved blade. I got him some proper bolt cutters- which I still have to ask his help to use on some of the bigger bolts I encounter- and have made do with inferior loppers since. And have won a few heinous husband story contests.

Oh, piffle!

I have 3 pair of shoes, 4 if you count my workboots. I have a couple more outfits than I did two months ago because I work for someone else now, but I bought them as inexpensively as possible, and I make a few basic pieces work.

Shoe and clothes indeed! Harumph!

Pony!

on the other hand, bolt cutters can be used as pruners! if you still have the pruners, there was a company near here that had parts for fiskars tools.

LOLOL! I have a buddy who used his wife's dishwasher and Cascade to clean a bunch of engine parts once, while she was away. Worked real good, and she never found out. Does that qualify?

I get frustrated to no end when my husband missuses tools/stuff. Because 9 times out of ten, he owns the correct tool, he just doesn't want to go get it.

I love tools, I love kitched gadgets. I've found that often times, having and using the correct tool can make a huge difference in the final quality of the project. But then I'm not doing an occasional patch job either LOL!!

I love it when a job comes up needing to be done and I don't have the right tool for it 'cause it gives me a good excuse to go buy that tool. If it is a tool that I only expect to use once in a blue moon, I'll buy cheap (harbor freight). If I'll use it a lot, I buy top quality.

At Our House..............

I'm retired. And, I love to cook. And, DSW Sharon is a little apathetic about cooking. I'm a whole lot the better Cook.
So, the Kitchen is mine! I hate it when she mucks about in the Kitchen.
I have to search for my second set of measuring spoons, asf.
She never puts things away, the same places I do.
She LOVES, my Cooking, though.(She doesn't have to cook it).
I let her load & run the dishwasher. But I prefer to put things away.

And the garage, as well as my big rolling tool-box, in the basement, are My Bailwicks too. She knows to ask me where my tools are. And, to let me put them away where I want them, when she is done borrowing.

On the other hand, my DSW is an Artist. She paints & sells portraits, landscapes. still-lifes & whimsical paintings, in a Gakkery, as well as at home..
I do not touch her brushes,(Some of them cost upwards of $15-$20, apiece).
I do not touch her "Oils, pastels, or Water colors.
No, I absolutely can Not borrow her "Daylight bulbs" to put in a lamp, in the Family room. They are pricey bulbs.
Oooh, she's the better Photographer too.I get to suggest great shots, tho.
She keeps a lot of "stock photos" to use in her Art work.

One great thing is her daytime job is at Lowes.(just awhile longer)
She brings me any tools, I ask for. She gets building supplies on discount.

Guess I'm lucky. We have worked things out to satisfy both of us.
We have great times together.
Living deliberately.
