My congradulations to the citizens of Texas! They brought that law up in WV a couple months ago and I think they voted it down  No one should have to back down from a criminal. We live (at the very least) 30 minutes from the closest law enforcement responder (if they can find our place). If I catch a law breaker on our place, I ain't backing down. I would like it if it didn't land me in jail. Some drug addict kids broke in on an 80 some odd year old woman a couple miles from here wanting her drugs. They didn't hurt her physically, just taped her to her bed; but now the poor thing is probably scared to turn out her lights. They caught them a couple weeks later. They should be horse whipped at the very least! people like that deserve WHATEVER they get, and (saddly) usually don't get it.

I didn't check the link, but I heard this on the news last night. Takes effect Sept. 1. Thank goodness. This is the only sensible piece of legislation Gov. Perry has signed into law.... he's really off his rocker lately. But thank goodness for this one.

It almost makes up for him making it a law that girls had to take that new HVP vaccine just to attend school! All states should have this gun law. It would make our homes and businesses safer and probably a lot less violence as well!

RIGHT ON!
The only caviat I have is call 911 Tell the dispatcher waht's happening & don't hang up before you shoot so they have a tape recording of you warning the intruder that you are going to shoot!
A former neighbour almost killed his daughter as he heard an "intruder" in the bushes outside their front door one night. She was looking for her cat! Moral of the story: be cautious.

Thank goodness I live in Northern Wisconsin, which is far less inhabited by the violent criminal types that seem to be prevalent in so many other areas.

The state rep. who sponsored this law is a good friend of ours. It's a very good thing for Texans.

I wish texas would join the state to state honoring of pistol permits. I can legally carry my weapon in 11 states of the south, but not texas.

Not to pop your buttons there, but the trend now is for criminals, especially violent ones, to seek out rural areas because of a lack of effective law enforcement. Said criminals are also unknown to people outside of where they live and can get away with more than if they commited their crimes in their home city or town.
Right now you are just lucky.

Congrats to texas. Florida also enacted the no retreat law in the recent past. Must be a great day for our second amendmend rights. Today florida passed this law
S2356 GENERAL BILL/CS by Criminal Justice; Peaden; (CO-INTRODUCERS) Baker (Compare H 1417) Individual Personal Private Property Protection [LPCC]; creates "Individual Personal Private Property Protection Act of 2007"; prohibits public or private entity from prohibiting customer, employee, or invitee from possessing any personal private property that is legal product when such product is lawfully possessed & locked inside or locked to private motor vehicle in parking lot, etc. Creates 790.251. EFFECTIVE DATE: Upon becoming law.
Thsi was enacted because corporations wanted to illegally search employees vehicles and not allow their employees to exercise their 2nd amendment rights.
I think these laws say a little something about our country it tells those communist sympathizers were serious about our second amendment rights.

I was just thinking about this stuff it seems to me that we need a few national gun laws to prevent these commie states from encroaching on the second amendment. They are talking about a national drivers liscense to make things easier between states, How about a national concealed weapons permit. I would support that and I would even support a more extensive training program to be able to get one. I think the state laws are one way that the politicians are trying to weddle away our rights. Little by little until they are all gone. Since the 2nd amendment is part of out constitution we shouldn't allow the states to infringe upon that and thats exactly what is going on in some states. If I can carry concealed in florida why shouldn't I be able to in new york city. I've been there it's scares the crap out of me. I would certainly like the right to be able to defend myself anywhere in this country. Why can I own an AK in florida but if I choose to move to california I would be forced to liquidate a lot of my collection which is in essence also an investment. I love dual purpose things guns are great for protection and investments. I think part of the key is tangible assests guns being one of them.

NRA statistics show a lower crime rate in states that have a concealed carry weapon law. I am not a groupie, but this is one organization I think we all should support.

Exactly what this new law entails? I cant go to work and talk about it, cause I dont know as yet what it does and dont allow.

It's roughly the same as OK's "Stand your Ground" law. You have the right to use deadly force to protect yourself, not just in your home, but wherever you happen to be threatened. You don't have to try to get away as your only protection.

I was always told that if the low down dirty skunk broke into your house you could shoot em. It was frowned upon to shoot em after they were fleeing the house but as long as ya drag em back in make sure they have a weapon you should be OK
