email scam!!! need answers

son received a scam letter of course from another country, asking for his account number to send 4.5 million dollars into sons account because the lady has no heirs and she is dying, and is donating the money to him. anyway who do you report this to? I deleted it from his mail, good thing i check his mail, he would fall for this stuff. I know your supposed to send it to someone.

Probably depends on your provider but if they have a Report Spam button use it. I have AOL and they do a fairly good job, but some still filter through. I have some faith reporting spam to them helps stop it going to others.

Yeah, people fall for these scams. I've read it is one of the largest sources of external revenue for the country of Nigeria - so don't expect their government to do much to crack down on it.

Some go so far as to bait on the participant by sending limited amounts a couple of times as tests. Then there arises some problem in which they need your money to take care of. There is apparently always more red tape or officials to be bribed.

Now they are also doing things out of england and jamaica. My mom actually had someone calling her cell phones with this garbage. I gave them her 'other'. I wonder if they called it and were surprised it went to the fbi

It would probably be more worth your time to have a good long talk with your son about email fraud, if you haven't already.

You should see the one I got the other day from a charming Russian girl who after getting a leave from her job and visa to visit her italian boyfriend Alfonso, found out the rat was married with kids. So rather than waste the visa, she thought she would come visit me and perhaps we might get together and start a family so would I please write etc etc. Boy was she barking up the wrong tree. Her english wasnt as good as that nice guy in the Nigerian bank who was trying to balance his accounts before the government auditor turned up. Amazing how these old scams keep turning up and there are still people foolish enough to believe them. The old Spanish prisoner scam and its variants has been around since 1588 and some are even older. Here's a neat link on many common scams. http://home.austin.rr.com/tsote/scams/various.html

Pssst: Come here. Wanna buy a bridge...cheap.

Don't waste your time sending em anywhere... nothing can or will be done.

Get a gmail email acct. Then only, repeat only, give it out to humans that you 'want' to talk to. Not your sister or Aunt that forwards all of the junk mail (w/hidden virus's), and hotlinks your mail to theirs, and you end up with zillions of junk.

I get only personal email through my gmail. My yahoo acct. gets 1500+ pieces of junk each day.

If they need to lighten their bank accounts, tell em to just get a roll of quarters, or stack of dollar bills and just throw em out the window, or into the back yard.
