Mobile home skirting ideas

We will soon be putting some skirting on the mobile home out at the homestead and we are debating what to use. Unfortunately, due to the costs involved concrete blocks and bricks are pretty much out of the picture. Vinyl of course is cheap, but looks it. There is also the "fake rock" which my dh thinks is just ghastly. (I tend to agree).

Does anybody have any other ideas/suggestions?

thanks,

donsgal

I have built a frame out of 2 X 4 lumber and then used Pcs of T111 siding. It looks great when painted a contrasting color to the mobile home. I put a set of hinges on a section and provided access under the mobile home for storage.

..................Most lumber yards have a "culls pile" that they will bundle all together and sell for cheap just to git rid of it . I'd look for such and maybe look for some exterior masonite siding overages on a homeowners or builders job . It is very long lived if it is painted and cared for . I'd try to run a 2x4 , treated "plate" along the ground just like on a slab if possible and keep whatever you use UP , and off the ground to prevent moisture from accumulating . MIght even try collecting pallets and using the lumber for the structural portion to attach the skirting too . fordy...

Short lengths of corrugated painted metal make an attractive and lasting underpenning. Dig a small trench in the ground and insert the panel in the trench then lift it to where you can place the panel underneath the existing skirt/band that is at floor level on the mobile. Fill the trench in with the excavated dirt to hold the corrugated in place. This will last for a number of years and you cannot send a rock through with a lawnmower.

See if there is a place around that does metal roofing. I have picked up some real nice pro panel cut off pieces at deep discount. Makes great skirting.
