Removing bird from our woodstove

We've got a bit of puzzle today...how to remove a bird from our woodstove. She somehow managed to get into the chimney and was unable to get out, ending up inside the woodstove itself. The kids are enjoying looking at her in the meantime. I've thought of trying to use a large box or an old blanket to transport her to the outside. We want to avoid letting her fly around the house. Anybody have a suggestion? Thanks.

we had this happen to us and the bird eventually found its way back out but yet our chimine is short. Butterfly net would be my second option

Just open the doors and shade the windows. The bird will fly towards what looks like a light, open portal.

I'd put a screen over the chimney soon too.

Get a garbage bag big enough to fit over the opening. Open up bag (a clear or white on might be best), open door and whip bag over the opening. If the bird doesn't come out, have someone bang on the stove alittle to get it moving. Bird flys in bag and squeeze closed with your hands, take outside and let'm fly.

Thanks, got her out

The picture of the bluebird inspired me to try and just grab her. Missed her of course -- she flew out and headed straight for the screen door, which we unfortunately forgot to open. So she smacked into every nearby window until she ended up back at the now open screen door and flew away. Far, far, away from the chimney I hope. I guess the topper on the chimney doesn't have a screen built into it. Made for an interesting morning. Now to fix the flat car tire we discovered this morning...

That happens to me quite often. I open the windows on either side of the stove, remove the screens, then open the stove. It's amazing, they normally fly directly to the open window.

LOTS of Bird Houses.
Screen will build up full of black stuff, so be cautious there.
Bird house with several sizes of openings for several sizes of Birds..in different locations.
How many Bird houses do you have ?

We had an adolescent starling do this last year. As soon as he was released, he circled the house a couple of times and went right back down the chimney. They don't call 'em birdbrains for nothing
