Mold In Dome House

Does anyone out there have experience with dome houses? Today I looked at one that was for sale. The problem was it was very moldy all over the inside. I'm guessing that the outer coating was porous to have let so much moisture in. Is there any way such a house can be salvaged or is it a goner? Thanks for any info.

Ripping out the entire inside could get expensive. Determining the cause should be your first move. I would bet that it is too tight and needed ventilation.

Expensive - I would have a toxic mold specialist come out to look at it before I bought something with extensive mold.

You say the mold is all over the inside. You "must" first determine the type of mold. In the meantime be aware that all molds can cause mild to severe health risks. Check with your county extension office. Based on what you have said I wouldn't entertain the thought of buying one more second. Best of luck to you.

I remember reading in that handbuilt homes book that mold was one of the problems with early dome designs (1970s). Also that the early materials didn't stand the test of time. How old is this house?

That said, my neighbor in Virginia built his dome home 40 years ago and it's doing fine.

Personally, I wouldn't want to deal with it.

If this was a regular rectangular or square shaped house I could tell ya what needs to be done. But a dome home, heck I dunno. Sorry.
