Pet Forum Opinion Poll

I hope Cabin Fever doesn't mind me asking here. Sometimes I see pet issues brought up on this board and I wonder why it wasn't on the pet board. Since so many reasons are possible I'm trying to understand if it is a shortcoming of the pet forum or just a personal preference. If you have the inclination please respond in earnest. You won't be identified by the poll. Thanks

I'm a pet forum fan, but not a fan in general of having so many specialized forums. I can see where a new person wouldn't realize there is a pet forum. That's probably why pet questions turn up in the homesteading forum.

As an example, I know I've missed lots of good info since the cooking & crafts forum has been subdivided, cause checking each section individually takes more time that I often have to spend browsing.

My answer really wasn't on the poll. The problem with having so many forums is, there isn't really enough time in the day for me to visit each and every forum. I visit GC and Families every day. More people view these and are inclined to post their answers there. I may have an interest or an answer to someone's questions about pets, but that doesn't mean I will visit the pet forum every day. I will answer it though when I see it on CF.

I like having a separate forum for pets.

I try to limit my time here (ha!) and if pets were part of the general Homesteading forum, it would create more noise for me to wade through.

I don't usually visit the pets forum because I usually don't have time.

I don't like a gazillion of different forums and also don't have the time to go and view each one. I like the convenience of having a variety of topics right there on one screen.

Take the Cooking and Craft forum.....I used to read there all the time...until it was divided into a bunch of subforums. Now it's inconvenient to have to go to a different section to read about using a dehydrator.

It's much nicer to have everything available at a glance.

For me, it's a time issue. After I visit the Homesteading Questions board, the Families board, the goat board, and the Crafts board, I usually have to move on and do something productive. I get little snippets of time to check in, and sometimes the pet forum is on my list to check, sometimes it isn't.

Ditto!!!!!!!! There are way too many forums for me. I keep bees, garden and preserve etc. etc. etc. on my homestead and I simple do not have the time to go from forum to forum. I liked it when the questions were mostly on one board and you could go through and answer when you had the time. These days I don't participate very much because it is just way too frustrating trying to navigate from board to board with my slow dial up.

I like the separate Pet Forum. I also like the way it's moderated, and I like that GoldenMom has excellent input as she's a practicing veterinarian also. It's one of the best pet forums applicable to country living, homesteading than any other. It's a forum perfectly suited for the HT site IMHO!

On the Other Hand

I can sympathize with those who feel like things are more scattered and harder to "See Everything" now that we have sub forums.

However, As someone with limited time to look at the forum I am very happy about the changes. Used to be I missed tons of great info because the volume of posts on board pushed that info to the second or third page in one day. Now I can go to the forums and sub forums I am interested in and the info is still there!

I know there is a trade off. People may not meet each other just becuse they don't frequent the same forums....but that is a side effect of success I guess.

i agree, its easier to find cattle questions on the cattle board, I have visited the pet board, and asked a few questions, didnt get much response, probably because i dont have much interest in the normal breeds i suppose, or lack of readership i dont know. so i didnt vote as i do have an interest in pets, but not so many questions about them perhaps?

I dont go to cf because it seems to be about personal stuff, hq is generally questions out of my range of expertise, tho i do try to visit. And it is hard to sift through alot of different questions.

eh ive rambled enough dont know if i had a point if i did i lost it

Guess I should have read more before I voted, opps!
If I have a question about my dogs or cats or to check if anything cool is going on with other HT'rs dogs & cats I will visit the pet forum.
Most of my time is spent in the equine forum.

I tend to agree with Sylvar,
Now it seems that I need to visit more forums as people think they'll get more response on the homesteading forum than the specialized forums. Why is this??
People also appear more "klicky" in the subforums. Not saying they are, probably because they post more there & others "know" them.

i think the pet forum is fine. i go there if i see a title out front that interests me or if i have specific questions. i think a certain amount of division in the topic of this site is a good thing. like others, i rarely delve deeper than the first page. if a board has too much traffic, i often miss posts. the CF is a good example. i don't go there much as i cannot keep up.

I liked it ever so much better when there wasn't a sub-forum for every single subject imaginable ( I know..I'm exaggerating..but it feels that way)..

There's more than enough time in my day right now to scan all of them, but I find that very tedious..If I had a pet question, I'd post it in HT..more people.

I agree with the "klicky" response. I read lots of the other forums when looking for specific info, but it seems like people are more willing to be rude on them, and if you disagree, well..... With the General and Family forums it seems everyone makes an effort to be polite, even if they don't want to.

Obviously this is a generalization, and I dont think I could point to one particluar incident, except in General Chat, then I could find plenty! lol

I agree with the folks who preferred fewer sub-forums.
If there could be an option to see posts into fewer forums, I would use it.

Information is much more redundant in the specialized forums since folks visit less often and arent aware that a subject was just discussed in depth 2 days ago....

Ok I'm guilty!! Some things I feel should be put on GC,some on PF,some in with Cooking.

But being lazy I guess I just put it here, most of the time I feel I get faster and better response

If time is an issue, Just go to the top of the page and click on "New Posts". Scroll down and see if anything interests you .

Thank you, I didn't know there was that option. That's just what I wanted.

...maybe I'm a name snob, but I pretty much quit going to it when they changed the name from Farm Dogs/Cats to a "pets forum" there is a diff. though subtle as it is. I really don't care about reading about everyones new puppy, or pit bulls, or poodles, or doggy laws. (Unless they are somehow being used as a "farm dog" as a ratter, herder, guard dog, etc.) I accepted the cats on the forum because living on a farm, I understand the important role cats play on the farm. Otherwise, like I said, I really don't care about everyones "pet issues"

I like all of the forums as it weeds out the topics I really don't care about, so I don't have to read hours of other peoples dribble. (Unless of course, I'm the one dribbling.....) ...just my two cents
