The title says it all, Neighbors.
I don't do fancy. Just want to play movies.
Any of you have either one of these models? If so please comment.
Thank you kindly in advance.

Figures, post the link and the site goes down. Anyways, give it a whirl when it comes back up. There is a DVD player review area where users rate the players...lots of good information there, especially if you want to play nonstandard formats.

What I use is a Initial 7" dvd player. The kind you take with you or can work in the car. I use it standalone, and use it with either of two tv's here at the house. About $129 from walmart a year or two ago. Works fine into a CRT tv and a hdtv tv.

Gosh, I paid $39.99 for mine at Walgreens and it came with 20 free movies.
The brand is a Panda DVD250.
It works great for what I wanted-just watching movies. It has all of the standard features that come on DVD players but it was much cheaper than any other brand I checked out.

Thanks for your responses guys.

My questions will show my ignorance, but what, other than just playing it forward, should a very basic dvd player do?

Are dvd players similar to tvs in that they display so many pixels? (or maybe pixels relate only to computers?)

How can you tell from the info on the box the probable quality of the picture?

Will it skip, rew, ff, zoom? Will it have anything to do with the sound quality or is that dependant on the tv?

I've never heard of the Panda brand; also, there are no Walgreens nearby. Only walmart, sears, or local shops.
I want to keep it at $40. or under.

Again, thanks much.

I have a RCA model, it cost $19.99 at Walmart around Thanksgiving time. It works fine, sometimes I have to tap the door to get it to open. I would say that if all you want to do is play movies get the cheapest one your favorite store carries. It will be fine. If you want super slow speed playback and other stuff spend more.

Stef, I don't own one so can't answer most of your questions.

I believe that DVD players only provide signal from a DVD disc to a television unless you get a DVD/TV combination unit. Like a VHS tape player.

Further, a DVD player would not have record capabilities. You would have to get a unit designed to do that in addition to the play feature.

Hi,

I have the Magnavox MWD7006 (or 'G') that you mention and I really like it, it was a step down from my last DVD player which cost me $85.00. You can hear the DVD spinning if you don't have the sound up to loud, but that doesn't bother me. Also I like the zoom and the other features that the lower end Magnavox product didn't offer. I think I paid $38.00 for it at Kmart around Xmas time.
