Crazy weather here in Maine!

Last Monday(3/5) my first doe kidded....and temps went below zero until Thursday(3/8) with -30&40 windchills....my daughter and I were taking the kids out to mom to nurse 6 times a day/night until Friday....long johns, pants, insulated coveralls and a coat w/ hood over balaclava and knit hat....and frzn when we got back to the house!

Today(3/14) my thermometer reads 61 degrees outside (a little in the sun) We had more kids born 3/12 that have been able to stay out with moms.
Another 3 does to kid out still. Lets hope that it doesnt snow Fri...not that I much like the mud....

Call it what you want...global warming or other....it still makes me crazy

mpillow,
This seems to be a fairly typical March, except for that cold blast you mentioned. That was strange. The fields up here (Aroostook) are showing bare spots and water gathers in the low spots. Probably means we'll get whacked with a huge snowstorm in April.
Oh well. sigh

My driveway is a mud hole, the yard and feilds still have alot of snow on them. It is 43 degeres this morning but going down to 17 tonight. I guess the sap will slow down for the next 4 or 5 days. Going to be a long mud season I think. Truck needs washing bad.

43° now, 20° tonight. It's raining lightly. The snow we've lost in the last two days has been found - running through the cellar into the gray water system.

I wanted to go to the Sportsman's Show in Orono Saturday but the weather doesn't look good for traveling 90 miles.

Latest weather forecast is for snow starting tomorrow ( Friday) and continuing into Saturday with 8 to 14 inches predicted for our area.

Snow this time of year is miserable because everything under it is all mud... really hard to plow and makes a mess.

Hunting/fishing supplies seminars....turkey, partridge, bird dogs to fly-tying

Canoe/Kayak dealers....rafting outfits

Snowmobile clubs and dealers...ATV

Dog sledding

It does usually cost admission and lots of raffles....for various stuff...canoes, snowmobiles etc

We are ready for Spring here...we got a 2003 4410 DEERE w/ bucket and hoe...but I guess will have to just use it for ditching the runoff away! We aim to plant more livestock feed this year...the tractor will help!

Sue -- I hope you are enjoying the pork....we sure are! My brother says it came out good and since he used to work at a piggery I'd say thats high praise....

Our calf will go to butcher in late Summer early Fall if anyone is interested in beef....and we can do veal on goats milk as well and we will have pigs and broilers again despite how much they eat, crap, and stink The proof is in the pudding.

We've got mud, milk, meat and crap for sale or trade

Looks like snow is on its way 5 to 6 inches bafore it changes over to freezing rain Then rain. 1 to 2 inches of raine should make a muddy mess!!

mpillow. Yes the pork is great. Having some right at this moment. It is 9 here right now, what a shock to the system after such nice days. Have you tried Luce's meats? I got 1/2 a cow from them, it is very good, not far from you.
