Is there anyone out there in the southeast part of Ohio that can help with electric?

We are trying to move but two things are holding us up............the electric and plumbing. Jon doesn't know all that much about plumbing and nothing about electricity. The people that we have been trying to help us keep bailing on us and we really need to move because my Mom's house (where we are at now) is being foreclosed on. We do have the electricity on at the new house but have the main breakers shut off. My husband as you know had recently lost his job and can't really look for another one until we move to our new house. We can't pay you for your services BUT can give you gas money and feed you dinner. If anything else maybe we could barter something else as well. We would be more than happy to also return the favor as well as we are hard workers. Someone please help, we are at our wit's end!

Blessings,

Kelli

I'm not sure. My husband was working on the plumbing. I can talk to him later and find out what all he needs to do.

Thank you soooo much for asking!!!!!!!!

Blessings,

Kelli

I don't see so many people from Ohio on this forum. Texas & the SE - you'd have a better chance. It's also possible your state would want a license for a non-homeowner to do this type of work, so some might hesitate a bit.

What are the problems you are having that you can't move into the house? Is this a new unfinished house, or an older, not up to usefulness problem? What are we dealing with, or what kind of help do you need? Serious from scratch setup of the whole systems, or just a little fixing of a bad spot or 2?

Plumbing isn't too big a deal, the worst you get is wet when you make a mistake. Could probably be talked through some simpler stuff here if you could clue us into what is up.

Electrical you might want to get a pro to help. It is really easy to make 2 wires provide you with electricity; but it can be done totally wrong & be a deathtrap waiting for years before it seriously hurts someone. I've seen some _really_ bad electrical advise on talk forums - this one included. Processd with caution with 'free help' from people on electrical questions. Sounds like you have power, so confused as to what it is you actually need?

Paul, thanks for replying. After talking with hubby he's pretty confident about the plumbing. LOL The house is an older BUT we did notice that it had a newer breaker box, meter, and some other stuff. We have someone that does KNOW alot about electrical wiring but the problem is getting him over to the house to do it! We have helped them several times moving and every time we ask them for help with the electric he's comes up with lame excuses. Ugh! Yes, the electric is on. We just need someone to help with running the wiring and whatnot.

Peace and blessings,

Kelli

You still haven't said what the problem is with the wiring. Are you wanting someone to rewire it for you? If so, whats wrong with the old wiring?

Help you do what with the wiring? If you have juice in the house, you haven't told us what it is you actually need done yet? New construction, addition, more circuts, ?????

Pulling teeth! What's the secret?????

Enjoy the new place, always a fun time with lots of work.

Tell us what county you are in. Some of us may be closer than you think.

The house is in Perry county. Alot of the wires were cut before we moved in from the last people that lived there. It's an older house and Jon (my husband) and this other person (when we can get him over there!) are rewiring it. There is one room in particular that doesn't have any electricity coming from the wires. Jon took some of the wall out to see if maybe there was a junction box (?) there but nothing. Just another wire going farther down the wall. Jon says that there is nothing in the basement or by the breaker box that they can see of the wires that go to the plug-ins in this room. Make sense?

Thanks!

Kelli

A lot of times wall outlets in a small room will be powered by one circuit. They run the main line to an outlet, from there to another outlet, then to another, etc. Carefully take the cover plates off the receptacles and see if there is one set of wires coming into the receptacle or two. By sets of wires I'm talking about cable like romex, etc. not individual wires. Anyhow, if the receptacle has two cables coming to it, most likely one of them is the main incoming line to the room and will give you an area to focus on to see where the main line feeding those receptacles is coming from. Rambler gave you excellent advice. I also realize when things are tight it isn't easy to hire a professional. At a minimum, I'd put the heat on your non-helping friend who seems at least to be familiar with electricity. At least you posted asking for help instead of treading blindly into potential disaster territory.

I know money has to be tight, but this is a _good_ time to rewire & do it right - get grounded recepticales in & that sort of thing. You got the walls open, pull new wire in with a ground - assuming the older house does not have them.

Cut wires will need a box to rejoin them together. You can't just wire-nut them or spice with electrical tape.

All kind of rules like that to keep you & yours safe for the next 30 years.
