Homestead property in the ads?
Did anyone figure out what they are talking about? Those ads at the top of the page talk about free land from the government? What are they talking about? I see they are BBB members, although that definately doesn't always mean anything.

Free ads
I have seen ads not these ads in preticular that had free land /free money /free govt business loans you name it, but usually all they are is a ad that asks you to send money for literature on how to get something free from the govt ,then you have to send more money to get more information ect,and it usually doesnt go any where from what I have seen , Finally people give up a with a few dollars less than when they started, there is cheap land out there but not much free from what I have seen and if its free and gov,t owned its probably got radio active waste buried there ,maybe someone else knows if the free ads are real and if so could give you the information ?

Just remember if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Oh, but at one time it was.
But really, I'm just wondering what their angle is. They say it is not nuclear dumps or waste land, but usable land. We bought one of their other books, which had useful information, but this book, I just wonder what they are talking about.

Property ads
Well it looks to me like your buying a book from a reseller or company who sells books .Just go into a barnes and noble book store and they should have the same thing and you can look at it for free any way, As far as useful information that will lead you to someone a contact or something I would bet wont happen, You could probably get the same info on the net if you look around, or go thru and write govt agencys about any land programs, Whatever you do i would not pay for any information,Like I said if the information is free someone should have it and provide you with something, if nobody has recieved any thing useful than they probably threw it away also or are embarrased to say they paid for it

Any time the Govermnent is involved you can get the information free by just contacting the Gov. If you want to get sometning free from the Govermtent you are wasting your time. Any time the Gov gets anything free to the public there are so many strings attached to it that you will do better to just buy it from a realestate agent.
There are low cost property avalibe to the public but you must contact the government agency that has it and make an offer. Some of the Government agency that has property avalible are the VA, HUD, Park Service, INS, Narctic Enforcement, and the Military in your area. Any property that is avalibel is listed at each agency.

Most probably what they are talking about is mining claims which is currently the only land that you can get FREE from the government. However, you do not own the land outright, on the privilege of "working" it on an indefinite basis. You must also improve the property a certain amount (buildings, etc.,) and you must show that you are reasonably "working" your claim. Most of these properties, by the way are extremely inacessible (there are some in Colorado that are at 13,000 feet straight up and down on the side of a mountain). You can probably find out more about mining claims by googling the term or checking out usa.gov and search "mining Claims" or google "bureau of land management" and you will see the state offices and the programs that are available.
Check out this link also for general information about mining claims: http://wiwi.essortment.com/mininglaw_rlge.htm

Even mining claims aren't "free" anymore. You have to pay for the application, and pay each year. Before the mid-90's, you could just run a dozer over the claim once a year, to 'prove up' that you were keeping the mine active. To get the land patented, and own full possession, a person has to actually prove a minable minerable exists, and probably 20 years and some good lawyers. The good ol days are gone.
And any land obtained thru the mining law of 1872 would be near worthless for homesteading... great for maybe recreational property.
BBB.......does that stand for Bad Business Bureau? Lots of swindlers are members.
