Mid-Ohio Draft Horse sale

I attended the Mid-Ohio Draft Horse sale today in Mount Hope Ohio in the heart of our Amish community. It was a beautiful day crisp but sunny.( I had -2 F this morning at 0330) The sun shone brightly as 256 Belgan horses were sold. Several nice farm teams sold well. The Percherons sell tomorrow... I'm staying home, I have too many already! It has been a great week for the folks down there, lots of visitors from all parts. I even stopped at Lehman's Hardware in Kidron on the way home, just to check the progress of their expansion due to open soon! If you've never been there ... put it on your list of things to do!

Turtlehead,
I watched for the ad in several Draft Horse magazines, but this time I had an "in" One of my Amish friends was selling a horse there. I took him down. It is a great sale. It lasts almost all week. They sell equipment one day, and horses for 3 more days. There are vendors set up all over the grounds and the local restruant even has a "Week Long Buffet" in honnor of the sale. The food at "Mrs Yoder's" was and is excellant. We eat there often.
You might consider making the trip from WV...there is lots to see and do in Amish country and everything is close together.

Thanks for the info, Ralph!
We have talked several times about going over to the "Amish Country" area and to be honest we weren't sure where to go or what to look for, exactly. This sounds like a wonderful event to attend. Thanks for the additional info, we probably will watch for goings-on in that area and head on over sometime in the next few months.

A great place to stay is Zinks Inn on the Square in Berlin Ohio. It is the center of everything with many shops within walking distance. Once you are there/here you can find all sorts of tourist info directions included.

Indiana Amish country draft horse auction at Topeka Indiana in No eastern Ind.

Several harness makers with their wares. They have room for a few campers right at the huge sale barn if you call for a reservation. Their email web site is WWW.AUCTIONS-USA.COM
They will have another drafthorse sale just like this one the last of October.

They have 3 carriage and antique auctions per year. April June and Sept. 3 days each. over 300 horse drawn buggys sleighs hitch wagons and unusual outfits, some of which are brand new, plus thousands of pieces of horsey antiques.

Lagrange county Indiana is the Amish place to see. One of the larger groups in the world.

Ralph, you're right, that's a great day visit! A friend and I were just in that area a few weeks ago, buying organic chicken feed at Gerber & Sons in Baltic. We had a great lunch at the Inn and spent a couple of hours browsing Lehmans.

WIHH, how's that barn building coming along?

If you go, get yourself a back roads map and get off the main roads. There is one rolling hill farm after another. A site to behold!

Uncle Will ..Thanks for posting on the Topeka sale. I've no t been there yet. I was at Horse Progress Days in Middlebury a couple years ago. I did drive through LaGrange. It is a nice area and on my list of places to visit.

Keljonma .. I dont know what "WIHH" means. The only barn I built lately was a machinery shed 24x48 with a sawmill building on the east end..Give me more info please.

Mamagoose is absolutely right...the real treasures are on the back roads.

Ralph,

I was referring to Wind In Her Hair's comment about wanting a Shire. We love Shires and Percherons, but have no horses in our horse barn yet.

Sorry for the confusion.

I love eating at Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen! Me and DH drive up just for lunch and to get those awesome Peach or Blueberry Cream pies they make in summer. My friend and I used to go up to Mt Hope (and all over that area) every other weekend looking for miniature driving equipment. I miss that! We're about 1 1/2 hours south from there.
Do you know when the next exotic sale is?
