ARM & HAMMER baking soda in Fridge?

Its a 'tradition' at our home to keep an open box of ARM & HAMMER baking soda in the fridge, and change it every two months.

I know it is not expensive to change the box, but lately I've been wondering why change it? Couldn't one box last for years?

The only part affected is the top 1/2 inch or so.
I just remove that and stick the box back in the fridge.

You can also rotate them out by taking the old box from the refrigerator and using it for cleaning, and putting the new box in the fridge.
