Mossberg 500 ... Good deal?

I was considering getting a 20ga shotgun for my boy .... found a Mossberg 500 20 ga, lightly used for 150.00 from an individual.

Jump on it or keep shopping?

Or should I say "Deal ... or No Deal?" (sorry had to)

Thanks,
Mike

If it is in good condition, it is a good deal. Parts are readily available for the Mossberg 500. There are a couple different variations of the 500 available, so if you want to change it later it can be done. If there is any doubt about the functioning of the gun let a gunsmith check it out first. Just my humble opinion.

I haven't kept up with prices, but we have 2 Mossberg's, good guns. They are usually sold at Poor Man's Paradise (Wal-Mart) so you could price compare with new.

Could only find the Mossberg 900 series at Wally World ... lots of Remingtons though.

I would think it was a good deal. If I was closer I would buy it...

150 is a good deal for almost any 500 in decent shape

I'd take it. Up here 150 will buy a single shot .22.

It's a good deal if there's no rust in the barrel. Take the barrel off, and look through it up at a light. You don't need a rifled barrel if you want to use it for shooting slugs. Just get an Improved Cylinder choke tube. I'd jump on it, and .20 is a perfect first shotgun for anyone.

Sounds like a good deal to me, especially if it's a private sale, no paper trail.
