Can anyone give me their opinion on a got location?
I am looking to re-locate. But I have no idea where.
Little tid bit of why....Husband cheated, getting a divorce, and starting over. Very scary, but kinda exciting at the same time..about 95% scared 5% excited.
Anyway, I live in Upstate/western NY, whatever you want to call it. Lived here my whole life.
I am selling my house which I loved. Its on 26+ acres, all wooded, set over 300 feet back from road, very private, secluded. Loved it. 3 or 4 months ago when I caught the S.O.B. I flipped lost my mind a little (ok, a lot) and bought another house, but on 3 acres with neighbors right next door. needless to say in my moment of clearity, I realized I need privicy. I need pastures, gardens, woods, nature. Lots and lots of nature.
After posting my house For Sale on the real estate forum, I glanced through it and saw how much less expensive and more beautiful the properties are in other states. And the taxes!! holy cow!! NYS is very high.
So I need to know. Where should I go?
Heres what Im looking for:
Some place that has 4 seasons, mild winters are fine. but it has to at least have an awsome spring and fall.
Good schools, My son just switched to a new school, (He's in kindergarden) and he likes it a lot. I just can not find anything around here that fits my needs/wants. Well i did but it was sold by time I called.
Somewhere that doesn't have yearly natural disaters. NY has bad snowstorms. thats about it. I like the idea of not worring to much about killer storms/floods, etc.
Acreage, over 10. privicy. nice house with outbuildings. Able to do whatever I want on my land. Have whatever animals I want. Ans as many as I want. No neighbors in seeing distance.
Priced 90,000 or less (preferably less! lol)
Any ideas?
Thank you for any and all info you can give!!!!

I think that price range is a little unrealistic for most of the country. Hereabouts you might find 10 acres with a trailer house for that but that would be about it.

Whoa take a minute
My advise to everyone who is going though a life changing experience, such as a divorce, death of a loved one what ever the cause is wait.
Don't do anything for a year after the divorce is final. I had a divorce from a 24 year marriage 25 years ago and did some really stupid things, went out one Saturday and bought three new autos., Thank God I could afford it but it was stupid.
At this point you have too many things going on in your life and mind and need to just take a oath to wait a year and then with a clear head go ahead with the rest of your life., Best of luck it is not going to be easy but you can do it. If you need it get counseling we have spent hours counseling people really most of the time just listening to them talk through their feelings and
most usually realize what they need to do and do it.

I agree with waiting awhile so you don't jump into anything radical and more scary than the situation you're currently in...with that said, it doesn't hurt to be checking other areas out either..... http://estesrealty.net/ is a website with some property from my neck of the woods. We have mild winters, goergous spring and the fall leaves are beautiful! Check out what they have for sale and see what you think. If you're interested in visiting the area, let me know! PM me with any specific questions too!!

Thanks! I will look! Ok, for the sake of argument, lets just say this is a hypothetical situation, and I'm just browsing at different areas, can more people help?

What will you be planning on doing for a living? That might have a big impact on your where you can realistically go.

I'm selling 110 acres in SW MO ( about 10 miles north of Marshfield, MO.)that I would be willing to divide into 15 or 20 acre tracts. It would be unimproved land with wooded bldg sites.
I would put some restrictions such as: no trailer houses, double wides would be ok; no dog kennels, chicken houses (the 300ft. chicken-mill type) and a few other restrictions that would inflict undue pain on your neighbors.
Located in the Marshfield, MO. school district, which is one of the better small school districts in the state.

I am a dog/cat groomer. I was originally going to start my own shop/store, so I will still be doing that where ever I go. also, I am going to look into telecommuting jobs. I am very proficient with computers. things of that nature.

We live in Western NY along the PA border, property tax is a little less in PA and you can get a little more for your money property wise if you're looking for out a bit and not to fancy. The weather is the same, the road condition is worse, plowed better in the winter but more pot holes & dirt roads, my BF says that's why we pay the big taxes!! Just my 2 cents, good luck!!

I wouldn't be to hopeful about getting much work doing pet grooming in a very rural setting. I have lived both on a very rural homestead and in the city. I worked as an animal nutritionist for about 4 years and it has been my experience that the farther you go from the city the less people are willing to spend on pets. Many in rural communities won't even take a pet for vaccinations or give heartworm meds to their dogs let alone spend money on grooming. The thinking seems to be that if they live they live and if they don't I can get another one. Obviously not everyone in rural America feels that way, but many still do.
Telecommuting jobs would be a much better bet in my opinion. Until recently I worked for a friend in his pharmacy software company. We had a satellite and virtually everything our pharmacies needed could be done over that or instructions given by phone. He lives outside a small town in KS, but could just as easily work from Alaska or any other remote place. Good luck!

This is the agency we bought our land from. He covers the Houlton area of Maine (southern Aroostook county). Climate is similar to upstate NY. Check it out. Really nice folks! :baby04:

We got a good break on our place, 13 acres for a good price, and there are lots available. My BIL is trying to sell an old farm house with a few acres. It has about 12 rooms and a barn. Don't know the price or much else about it. I would buy it but my wife likes it where we are.
I came here from western New York many years ago to go to college when we had one here. It's gone, I haven't left yet.
The place is full of small town politics, but that's just small town life.
Hope this helps.

Calais has a grooming business called Fuzzy Butz. I don't think Lincoln has a grooming service. Lincoln is north of Bangor, has most anything you could need, and is a nice community.

There's a problem because you have a low budget, want land, and want to do a business that appeals most to preppy urbanites.
Do you like commuting? There may be some cities whose outlying areas would appeal to you, especially if you go to the south or midwest.
Western states (west of the Rockies) would be either too expensive or harsher weathered than you're used to.
