Neighbor's barn burned to the ground

All his goats died - including the 15 bottle babies I sold him last spring.
I'm WAY past bummed. I can't imagine how he must be feeling....

We don't know yet - they're still investigating that.

Wow! Fire is one of the biggest fears I have in being out in the country. It takes a long time for fire dept. response.

I'm sorry to hear that.

I'm not saying it's so in this case but frequently, in cold climates, barn fires are the result of defective heat lamps or heat lamps being knocked over by livestock. I'm sure sorry for anyone who looses a barn and livestock for any reason. It's a great hardship.

Oh that's so horrible! Our barn burned to the ground last nov. and even though our goats escaped it was a very hard and trying experience--thank god we had insurance and made extremely detailed lists and pricing for them of all that was lost plus pics. You know that only thing that made it easier, was that day we had so many friends come by bringing comfort food (fried chicken, jo jo's and chocolate cake) they offered shoulders to cry on when we didn't know if the goats made it out or not and they helped man the notepads to list everything. Here's hoping they'll make it through alright and be able to build again as we are this spring.

I'm thinking most barn fires are caused by a financially strapped owner wielding a propane torch.

That is terrible. I hate to hear about things like that. I hope he had insurance on the barn, which can be rebuilt. But little lives lost can not be returned. It makes me sad.

If that's the case here, he's gonna be hard pressed to stay in the area.

Or someone else could do it, for fun, 'kicks', revenge.

My senior year I lived in a shed on our property. There were 3 sheds, one held the chickens, one held the tools and equipment and I stayed in the third one. Misc. storage was in another part of the building.

One night, I just 'knew' something was wrong and someone was outside. Just KNEW it, but could not see anything and never heard anything. I was terrified, yet I had no reason to be that I knew of.
I ran outside and ran straight to the main house. I felt foolish, but still terrified.

Later that week, my Stepdad discovered that someone had taken a propane torch from the toolshed and started to set fire to the shed that I was in. There was a big burnt spot on a door not far from my part of the shed.
Stepdad thinks that I scared him off when I ran to the house.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of all those goats. How terrible.
