The market crash
So, how did all you market players make out the last couple of days? Buying? Selling? Jumpin outta windows yet?
What's our next move? Any tips?

Oh, puhleeze. The market fell a whole 3%.
I'd call it more of a chip than a crash.

I jumped all the way from my back deck that's 4 ft. from the ground. It was kind of fun diving into that foot of new snow.
next move and tips? garden seeds. I'm going to invest in that, and hope the bears don't eat it!

Nothing more than a technical glitch. They reportedly tried to upgrade their systems to Vista...

Crash
The glitch was enough for me to go ahead and switch all but 15% of my IRA into Bonds. I plan to keep it that way for awhile. Maybe until a year into the next President's term. I had already been contemplating changing my stocks to bonds, so the "glitch" was just a little nudge for me.

The name of the game is to buy low and sell high...Not buy high and sell low...When the market tanks....Buy more!! If it was a good investment at a higher price, it's even better at a lower price...Buy what you know and stick with it...

Stocks are still way overpriced and bull market is stale. This correction or whatever it was mainly affected Dow and I dont own any big cap stocks. I'm heavy in cash since last summer, but not because of this. Anybody who believes a bull market goes on forever is a fool. Anybody that buys in at end of a bull market is fool.... I think Warren Buffet is correct in betting against dollar, just too early. He misjudged because there are lot govts and corporations and such that are desperate to prop up the American dollar and continuation of the drunk spending by American consumers. Much of the recent housing boom was financed by China. They have vested interest in not seeing us collapse. Thing is when you try to manipulate and prop up the market, it may work in short term but it means bigger and harsher swing in future. Even in '29 the market didnt just collapse in one big heap, there were hits and bounces, but general downward spiral.

Christian Investing
I have an IRA through work. I am currently trying to educate myself in the stock market. Can anyone in this forum help me choose good investments that they think will stay strong if we have a terrorist attack or the stock market crashes? I have looked on the Internet without any luck. Surely someone here can help me. Thanks.

This is exactly right. Price only matters the day you buy and the day you sell.

You can always sell short if you got real balls. Can hurt bad if market reverses even temporarily and you have to cover your position. Can bet with options, at most just out what the options cost you.
Anymore though you can buy shares in actual reserves of gold or silver in vault somewhere. Its more defensive than anything, you wont lose, but its not going to skyrocket short of whole bunch of money clamoring to get in at same time. It will protect you better against big time inflation and falling dollar than cash ever can.
As always the stockmarket is a big casino. Always a clash of greed and fear. Right now I aint feeling greedy, but each to their own. I got burned in the dotcom crash and learned to avoid stale overpriced bull markets. If you have a better crystal ball than me, then go for it.
Even now I wouldnt hesitate to invest in some individual micro cap stock if I really liked it. Micros dont necessarily follow market as a whole. Use a good stock screener and look for micros with little to no debt (decreases risk whole lot) and increasing cash flow. There arent huge number (most micros have lot debt) but they exist. Then do your homework. One neat thing about microcaps is that they are too small for institutional investors and mutual funds. If big guys bought enough shares to make a difference to their portfolio, then they would have a controlling interest in the company.

Sound advice, Hermit John. I agree that the bull market is stale, and that all bull markets come to an end.
I don't have any idea what the real reason is behind this recent 1-day drop, but some of the reading I've done leads me to believe that a lengthy down trend is in the near future.
I'd be curious to know if you have read any of Harry Dent's books, and if so, what you think of them? In brief, Dent propounds the demographic argument, that with the baby boomer wave nearing retirement (and therefore decreased spending), the economy is due for a downturn.
I haven't got the years to recognize the patterns happening now and compare them to personal history, so I'm trying to fill in the gaps through my reading.

Each of our renters paid on time, so our investment vehicle does not seem to have been effected.

I'm down one renter and several thousand dollars today. It'll be better next week.
