No disrespect Cabin, but the current death toll is 13, 8 of which are children.

Spent the afternoon in our basement, while the storms seemed to go both north and south of us, until the last wave which went right over us, but had weakened considerably so was just heavy rain and wind. People were complaining here about all the schools closing this morning or at lunch, hopefully they are glad now and wish that the schools in Enterprise had done the same. Local news here is reporting 8 dead at the school. There are reports of several small tornado's all over the state. It looked like they may have been hitting GA also, but our news has just been focusing on the Alabama events.

Apparently the tornado at Enterprise hit the high school [i]while they were evacuating[/b]. The parents had just arrived to pick up their kids.

Can you imagine being a parent who was late to that evacuation when others were on time and got their kids out?

Several dead in GA but tornado passed me by this time, thank goodness. Son's school sent children home at 1:30. Many without power in Columbus, and Americus, a hospital was hit near Americus leaving I believe 2 dead and hospital officials scrambled to move the remaining patients to other hospitals.

I HATE tornado season...

Scott
I wasn't referring to the lives that the tornado claimed, I was referring to the title of the thread "Tornado Alert."

I'm not trying to play one-ups-manship here, but a blizzard can easily claim just as many lives as a tornado...especially when you factor in the vehicle accidents and the inability of emergency services to assist people in need.

They cancelled after school activities here yesterday, but thankfully the weather was not bad. Supposedly today will be another tornado watch. Heavy thunderstorms are expected.

Here in central Georgia (Crawford County) , had a tornado hit about 5 miles east of us. We had very high winds, torrential rain, lots of lightning. Lost power for four hours when a neighbor's tree fell across the power line. Wind took the roof off the wellpump house, only damage we had - others were not as lucky.

I request the moderators add a date after the thread title so that people don't mistake the thread for a new tornado outbreak warning.

For some reason this storm has me a bit freaked out. I must have left the weather channel on too long last night.

(I'm in California, land of dust devils and exceedingly rare, wimpy tornados).
