Weather Yesterday Smoke Fog or Dust

Did anyone start seeing the sky turn grey yesterday afternoon? I took some pictures and it was so thick you could not see across the valley. As I watched the evening weather forcast they said it was dust. Had rain dropps of mud. you could really see it on white cars. Was that how it was in the dust bowl???

During the dust bowl the skies would be black with dust. I ccan remember when a dust storm came and got into everything. What you had was much like a precuser of the dust bowl. The skies were like like at dusk even in the day time. The dust would get into everything even with everything you can do.

I live in a real airtide house but even the beans that were cooking on on the stove in a lided pot were dusty.

We are in west-central Arkansas and experienced it yesterday evening. Thunderstorms all morning, then dust storms all evening. Scary. I thought of the dust bowl, too. The weekend tv anchors out of Ft. Smith went on and on about how "wierd" it all was. You'd have thought the earlier rain would dampen the dust, but the weatherman said the dust was from further west and was mixed with smoke from around Muskogee.

Check this out. Started in TX due to a L pressure over the plains sucking in the sand.

HA you got our dust!
It was so bad here in the Lubbock Tx area we couldnt see the side mirror on our suburban coming home. We had to pull of the road and creep along the ditch to make sure we didnt come up on the car we knew was ahead of us. They had to close the highway down in Garza county I think it was. YUCKY

That was kind of awesomely scarry! We took off to town yesterday evening and seen the sky just litterly turn yellow on us. I mentioned to my wife how this looks something like what my mom would describe the dust bowl days as being. I couldn't figure out where the dust would come from since we had rain for almost the last 24 hours.

My wife took the blame upon herself. She washed the car on Friday!

We got it here. We had red rain for a while. Dh and I were out looking for missing chickens when it started. Thunder, lightning, wind and red rain. I started having flash backs of Lubbock, Tx.
Serena, I don't miss the red dirt or dust storms of Lubbock. that red dirt got EVERYWHERE and was a booger-bear to get out of clothes. (BTW, that's my DD's name too!)
We lived around 105th and Indiana.

My daughter is in Rhome, TX and she told me about the yellow skies. Being from Alabama she thought it was tornado weather, but learned real quick it was a dirt storm (she went out on her porch to fetch something).

Saturday we were clearing on our land (8 mi east of Bonham, TX), beautiful day but soooo windy. Then the sky went dark gray & we could see the dirt/dust blowing up the road. Yeck.

We also had 60 mph winds that helped to push the winds over to you. DH's flight from NM was diverted to Oklahoma City until it was safe to land in Dallas. DFW was shut down for 4-5 hours due to the wind.

Yea we got the dust also Dave. But we did not get hit by any tornado's so we are lucky. Sheet winds took off shingle and gutters but that was all. The barns and animals survived. This is a pic of our house lamb and our neighbor that lives behind us. He is the one who lost both legs in the motorcycle accident and the little girl is his daughter. This pic was taken as we all gathered at our house in case we had to hit our shelter as we are the only house with an inground shelter.
Hope you and yer family made it through ok. Are you ready for the Pigs Yet?

How the heck did I miss this?? I left early yesterday morning for a class in Fayetteville and returned after dark so I didn't get to see much of the sky. Saturday I did notice a pink sky but put it off to "tornado weather".

I live in the River Valley too! I'll bet I'm w of you Siryet.

Sure am glad it missed us! I went through a dust storm in OKC in maybe 89 or 90 (might be the one you remember OV) and it was a real mess. Even though we tried to close everything up tightly and put towells near the windows there was a fine dust over everything. What a mess!! It looked like a big red wall approaching and when it hit the whole house rattled and filled with dust. It was quite a sight!
