Newcomer's idea

Read this yesterday in the local paper, the Ask A Question section and got a chuckle: Q. I hope the property off of l0th Street abutting the golf course and west of Darwin Park will be used for something other than grazing cattle. I don't think cattle will appeal to new businesses and new residents. Are there no zoning laws dealing with this situation?

Sad.

Wonder where that person thinks all this food production happens?

I wonder why he didn't just contact the zoning board and ask. Maybe he'd like to see the acreage go to tall weeds and rats.

Whenever I hear someone clamoring for "zoning laws" I really feel like getting out my shotgun and escorting them back to wherever they came from as a service to the community..I HATE zoning laws..and yes, if a commercial pig farm set up business right next to my place, I'd not be hollering about its existence..nor would I go insane if my neighbor raced cars on his private property, or had elephants as livestock..obviously, I have rather strong opinions on this topic..LOL..zoning is evil..that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Just the typical "not in my back yard" syndrome. It applies to many things. "Don't build that sewage treatment plant anywhere near my location" even though I will be glad to contribute plenty of sewage. "Don't build that landfill anywhere near my location" even though I will be happy to contribute plenty of garbage to fill it. "Don't raise those animals anywhere near my location" even though I will be happy to consume them once they are in the store. And on and on.

Most cows I've known had better dispositions and manners than many people.

I I TOTALLY AGREE with the prior postings!

I served for 6 years on a Planning and Zoning Commission in a City in Colorado (2 years as Chairman), and I can tell you "straight-out" that MOST Planning staff members have EVERY INTENTION of CONTROLLING your land......even to the extent of Condemnation and Eminent Domain!

DON"T LET THEM DO IT TO YOUR NEIGHBOR! (Maybe your neighbor will help protect YOUR land some day!)

just my 2 pesos worth,
Bruce
P.S. If you don't like what your neighbor does with his property, you have the "option" of buying him out.

I went skiing 10 years ago in Lilliehammer, Norway for several days. Great skiing but they closed the runs down for several hours from 4 - 7 pm. I was on one of the first chair lifts up one evening and on the run down had to wait for the cows to cross.

Cow pies added an additional hazard to the skiing. Think what they would do for golfing!

I certainly know I am tired of the county dictating what I can and can't do with my land. I own a small 10 acres and can't even put up a fence without paying my fee to the king and asking permision.
My wife is starting a Pet Grooming home business and the county wants over $3000 just for permit to install a 2ft by 2ft sign on the corner of our own driveway about 10ft from the road. But they certainly have no problems taxing us to death for our land which is now up to $5000 a year for our crumby old 1927 farm house and little chunk of land.

And they are getting more addicted to those tax money (developments, cookie cutter McMansions) and so on. I am sorry for the pain that you are going through...!
