What chainsaw do you like?

My DH is looking to buy a new chainsaw. Tell me which one you like. I'd like him to spend the money and get a good one.
Thanks!

Goodness gracious Cider...

Wars have been started for less... It's like asking what the best truck is.

LOL.

Stihl and husquavarna are good saws.

I personally have a Poulan Pro 265 that has done real well by me, you'll get a lot of people who will tell you that Poulans are "junk, disposable, etc." (and some are) but when you dig a little deeper you will see who REALLY manufactures what saws now days.

That's all I am saying. Let the wars begin!!! (Just kidding, be nice)

I've owned Stihl 025 and a cheesy electric ("Remington 3.5hp").

I'm looking to switch over to electric only.

those would be my suggestions they are both very good. i have a poulan pro and as it has been ok for the occasional use i give it i am not real happy with it. it leaks bar oil as it sits in the case and has since it was about a month old. poulan would not do anything as far as fixing the issue.

I'm not a man but I do use a chain saw so I hope it's okay to answer. I'd go with the Husquavarna (sp.?) and Jonsered too ! poulan didn't last me anytime! although it could be because I'm hard on stuff! but I think I only had it a few months when it fell to pieces. just my opinion!

I paid $500 for my 034 stiehl in 1992. Its still running well. I cut about 30 cord per year. I tried a newer stiehl last summer. It was supposedly 3 sizes bigger than my 034. I didint like it. It didnt seem to have as much power as my 034.
When my 034 dies I probably will spend the money to have a new engine put in it.

STIHL FARM BOSS WITH 20 INCH BAR

that is if you plan on doing anything more that ocational cutting

the with everything else you are getting what you pay for.had a freind who bought the polan wild thing 18" bar it was an ok cutter till i overheated it in under an hour

he tooke that back and traded it for the pulan pro and it cutt for about the same till the poor design of putting the screen for the vacume release for the automatic oiler behind the drive gear where it gets loaded with dust in a short time so that went back
and he bought a husqauvarna i think he is relitivly happy with that

stihl is only sold at autorized service centers where they know how to fix saws
husqauvarna is sold many places like farm stores hardware stores and department stores some fix them some don't

stihl and husqauvarna are the main two manufacures that provide parts the rest of the mcullic ,polan, homelite, echo good luck finding parts

mcullic had a profesional line till last year now no parts

think about getting the chaps and gloves that stop the chain
there was an earlier post about a guy here on homsteading today that chewd up his leg bad and was out od the fire wood game for the season.

As the others have said. You can't go wrong with Stihl, Husquavarna, or Jonsered. They are all good quality saws.

My vote is for Stihl. I am amazed that it took me five other chainsaws to finally find the real one...a Stihl. The store prices are fixed by the factory, so normally there is no negotiating. They can, however, throw in some accessories for free if you drive a hard bargain.

The Stihl/Husky rivalry is also often regional. Some parts of the country
are more heavily geared towards Stihl, others Husqvarna. Consider
looking around and seeing what shop affiliations are common in your
area.

depends what you want to do with it.

I had a swedish made Johnesrud 670. It was powerful, noisy, and did a great job of felling trees I used it on up to 2 ft. diameter at the stump.

Stihl is probably the best, but last year I got a John Deere CS56. It's very easy to start, not as noisy, a bit less power than the Johnserud 670 I had. It does the job for me in the woodlot. I cut about 20 cords or a bit less per year, mostly aspen. So far I like the J.D. Many local farmers have the same model. No complaints, and parts readily available if needed at the J.D. dealer.

I don't use one, but my hubby does. He's had a Stihl for several years, no problems. Recently got a Husqvarna, and REALLY likes it. We use wood only for heat, between my hubby and the boys, both chainsaws get a workout, both are doing well for us.

Zeal you are too funny..... Chainsaw wars...

How nice you getting your hubby a saw. Maybe to narrow it down .... is there a power equipment dealer near by? Maybe the place you get your lawn/farm equipment from. They will probably be the dealer with one or two name brands mentioned above. The local dealer that stocks parts is important.
