"The Future of Food"

Someone mentioned this movie a lil while back, but I couldn't find the thread before my patience started wearing lol. I added it to my Netflix queue and finally got to watch it tonight. I have to say... WOW.... it actually put my tear ducts to work. It's astounding to see just how much has been done without our (the public's) knowledge or consent. And what Monsanto did/is doing to those farmers.... it's disgusting. And then for the judge's to side with Monsanto on the one case! OMG! My heart aches for those poor people. I looked over at my 5yo son eating some spanish rice I'd made and just wanted to grab it away and tell him he couldn't eat it because I don't know if it's GMO or not! I'm going to do my best to get everyone I know to not only watch it, but to talk about it to as many people as they can.
For anyone who hasn't watched it, I strongly suggest you do.

KayJay,

The link below takes you to the True Food Now website. At the bottom of the page click on "click here" and it takes you to a list of foods that do and do not or may contain gmo"s. It's a very long list.

The True Food Network
A guide to the list

The True Food Shopping List was compiled because you have the right to know what's in your food! Today, thousands of products on supermarket shelves are made with ingredients from genetically engineered (GE) crops. But GE foods are not labeled in the U.S., despite warnings from doctors and scientists that these foods may not be safe in the diet or the environment.

Thank you for the recommendation. I just ordered another movie: "The Secret Life of Noah Dearborn" after reading the forums on Mother Earth News. LOL No need to have tv for previews, just read the homesteading forums!

I only just began my homesteading adventures. Yesterday I made my own baby cereal. My daughter is nearing 6 months of age, and has only recently had her first bites of food - all homemade by me. I'm going to continue to feed her only natural home-grown food. This video seems just exactly what I'd like to watch, and will probably maintain my motivation for natural & home made food for my family.

Thank you Pony. I was in a hurry because I had to go outside and take care of one of the critters.

Di nada. I figured you were sidetracked.

THANK YOU for sharing the name of the site! It is really eye-opening.

I've already downloaded and printed letters to mail to my senators to protest the Food Uniformity Bill.

If anyone else is going to make their feelings known to their senators, remember that it's always best to send a hard copy of a letter; next best is to phone their offices; final choice is to email.

I just got that movie from Netflix. It's now circulating around a circle of friends. People we work with think we're nuts for even thinking about this as a problem, but it's really disturbing.

You know, I think the people who say that they "think" other people are nuts are the sort of people who don't want to THINK about things. They'd rather have their quick, cheap, and easy food available to them when they want it, and if they don't THINK about what's in the food, it somehow won't hurt them.

Talk about denial!

We have a friend who has no problem with his info being out there all over the place, no problem with GMO and cloning, no problem with government interference. Of course, he works for one of the major pharmaceutical corps, so that may have something to do with his mindset...

They refuse to even consider that anything like this could possibly happen here in our "protected perfect world". Most people I've spoken to think that "some gov program" is monitoring the food sources, keeping everything safe and healthy, so they have nothing to worry about. To them, this sounds like something in a science fiction movie and they just don't believe it's real. What scares me most is that the general population is so complacent. I keep wondering what’s it going to take to eventually wake them up so they will see what is going on around them?

I went and looked at the site
I have to ask they state in alot of the products NON-GENETICALLY ENGINEERED INGREDIENTS

Well if you Look under dressings/salad oils it list oils

365 Brand
# (Whole Foods) Canola Oil

Down to Earth
(Wild Oats)
# Canola Oil
# Canola Oil Spray

Canola is is genetically modified. It is a big issue right now with farmers.

But otherwise it was a good list.

Non-organic canola is modified.

Organic canola is grown from non-gmo canola, which was developed from an ordinary hybrid.

Despite rapid expansion in the area planted to organic crops, the organic sector still represents a small fraction of total canola, corn and soybean acreage in North America, it said. In 2001, in the United States, organic corn acreage was 0.12 percent of the total acreage planted with corn, and organic soybeans accounted for 0.24 percent of the soybean total. In 1999, in Canada, organic canola accounted for just 0.09 percent of the total canola acres. 7 There is no recorded organic canola grown in the United States.

Future food produced by corporations will be increasingly dismal.

Individuals who try can continue to eat well.
