-1 and School is cancelled already...
Windchill is around -25 or so and they cancelled school tomorrow. LOL, the kids are excited... they want to go out and play.
I know a couple of busses were suffering from Diesel Fuel gelling up.
Burning some big oak 4x4's from pallets we cut up, wow they are throwing the heat. Nice and toasty here in the house.

i figure it is best to sleep during the warmer temps and fire the stoves tonight. the tv portion of my cable service is out...grrr. i am a bit too tired to concentrate on reading. that would put me out like flipping a light switch.

They are cancelling some schools up here over fears of buses not starting or breaking down.
Right now it is -19 below, and might get up to 0 today.

Ours is cancelled too. The Cleveland stations were reporting over 600 area schools cancelled this morning. Now if only work would be cancelled too! Stay warm friends!

Endless list of school closings today. I don't think there's a school open.
We got lake effect snow off of Lake Erie all day yesterday, so towns in the southerntier of NYS are closed due to accumulation but otherwise, they're closed due to cold temps. Wind chill this morning is already -30. Hubby Joe's truck didn't want to start this morning, so he'll be home today. That makes morning chores easier for me with him home to help. I'm already tired of water buckets thawing in the bath tub.
When I was a kid, I don't remember school closings due to cold temps, just too much snow.

-3 here in Indy. After dragging myself outta my nice cozy cabin and driving my 70-minute commute to work, I arrive to find that the heat is out. So I'm sitting in the cold, waiting to see if they are gonna get it fixed or send us home.

It's -6º here this morning. I don't know if the senior center is going to open today. If so I'll be serving lunch. If not I'm staying in and not venturing out at all.

It's -5 here and there is a windchill advisory. We got almost 2 feet of lake effect yesterday which is unusual for this far north (southern St. Lawrence county) and alot of schools a little farther south (Watertown/Fort Drum/Tug Hill area) were announcing that they were closed last night. Even Fort Drum is on a 3 hour delay this morning. We had school and it's snowing again... our buses are all kept in a heated bus garage so no problems starting here.

I wish school was cancelled! I almost had to have the service guy out to get the bus started this morning. It's running now though.
We've got about 0 F with windchills in the -20's. I don't know why they'd be sending kids to school in that.

Minus 3 here in NE PA. Schools are on 1 or 2 hour delay, but most in this end of the southern tier of NY are open according to the tv.
Brrr. Wood stove needs a little help from (YIKES) electric heat. Wind is what is keeping it so cool inside.

I haven't decided whether I'm going to class today or not...I'm swaying towards the not catagory. I babysit for a lady and her pipes froze, so all the water she has is in the tub. She's going to shut the main off and then she won't have water at all. Her home is inadequately heated, so I'm not at all shocked by this. She is using electric heat, with the aid of space heaters. The space heaters are not working. The way that home thrives on drama, they should be content! *sigh*

-6 here and a 2 hour delay - but since I wasn't listening to the radio, I didn't know it til I reached school and found no one here! Ah well, a good time to catch up on odds and ends.

Here's something my cousin in Iowa sent me this morning:
TO MY FRIENDS IN IOWA OR THOSE THAT GOT SMART ENOUGH TO GET OUT !!!!
60 above zero: Floridians turn on the heat. People in Iowa plant gardens.
50 above zero: Californians shiver uncontrollably. People in Cedar Rapids sunbathe.
40 above zero: Italian & English cars won't start. People in Iowa drive with the windows down.
32 above zero: Distilled water freezes. The water in Des Moines gets thicker.
20 above zero: Floridians don coats, thermal underwear, gloves, wool hats. People in Iowa throw on a flannel shirt.
15 above zero: New York landlords finally turn up the heat. People in Iowa have the last cookout before it gets cold.
Zero: People in Miami all die. Iowans close the windows.
10 below zero: Californians fly away to Mexico. People in Iowa get out their winter coats.
25 below zero: Hollywood disintegrates. The Girl Scouts in Iowa are selling cookies door to door. (True!)
40 below zero: Washington DC runs out of hot air. People in Iowa let the dogs sleep indoors.
100 below zero: Santa Claus abandons the North Pole. Iowa gets upset because they can't start the Mini-Van.
460 below zero: ALL atomic motion stops (absolute zero on the Kelvin scale) . People in Iowa start saying..."Cold 'nuff fer ya?"
500 below zero: Hell freezes over. Iowa public schools will open 2 hours late.

Well, that was fun. Got the bus 2/3 of the way down my laneway and jammed it between the snowbanks like a cork in a bottle. Took 1/2 hour to uncork it and get it back up to the house to plug it in. Went back and dug packed hard snow until the top half of my body was soaked in sweat and my toes were blocks of ice.
I've probably got at least 2 more hours of digging before I can get down the laneway. Time to sit down, have a cup of tea, dry off and thaw out first though!
