Northwest Missouri bound...anyone there?

Hello there. Not really a newbie here as I've been an active reader of this site for years........thanks, by the way, for all the great advice!!! It's been wonderful!! DH and I purchased a small farm in NW Missouri in 2001. For the past 5 years, we've been fixin' up the place (monthly visits) in order to make the big move to it. Well finally...this is the year. We're overwhelmed with both excitement and fear of moving to a new place! We absolutely love this part of Missouri! The rolling pastoral hills, the fresh air, the animals that spring brings, the friendly people...anyone here from this area, or from Missouri? Any words of wisdom? We do not have jobs lined up yet, and I know that jobs can be tough to come by in this area. However, I know it'll all work out.

Welcome to Missouri. I live down in Central Mo, south of Sedalia. One thing I didn't like about Northern MO is they have been having a drought up there the last few years. The rainfall hasn't been great down here but it's even worse up that way. After those encouraging words glad you are moving to Missouri.

Jeff and I have looked up there, although we're leaning more toward southern Missouri. Northwest Mo seemed so dominated by really big farms that we felt pretty intimidated. Can you tell me what town or county you're close to, maybe we missed something good!

Judith...Yes, in Harrison County...........and yes, there are some really big farms, but lots of little ones, too. More and more little ones all the time. It's a beautiful area and very affordable. You should check it out!

Welcome neighbor,
I live in N.W., MO, close to St. Joseph. What part of N.W., MO are you bound for?

I lived up by St. Joe for 40 years...then moved to Colorado. Still have family there though....and when I get too old for mountain exploring, I'll probably go back.

welcome

Welcome to our neck of the woods. We live less than an hour from you in Caldwell County. We love this part of the country (good soil, trees & rolling hills), and the people are great.

Sister from St. Joe married and their family moved to Longmont, Colorado area. She died, but her husband and daughters stay in Colorado. Friend used to live in town I grew up with set up a 40 head cattle farm just on the edge south in river bottom lands. We used to hunt there a lot. Good area. Land prices have gone up a LOT over the years.

You bet land prices have gone up in the past few years. With all of the new housing projects and the new shopping center, few people can afford land close to St. Joseph anymore.
