Don't want to jinx myself, but i think we found our homestead-

Ok, just 2 acres, but I am giddy with joy and don't know what to do with myself. All the energy is going towards packing. Giddy giddy giddy.

In thinking about the property I am not sure where to start. I am hen shopping. But I need to get a garden in. There isn't one. The house is well built and doesn't need anything (that I know of/right now). There is a solid barn with electricity and water.

Make out a 5 year plan. Add stuff each year. You can't do everything at once, you will get burnt out and give up.
I am excited for you !!! Don't pack up un-necessary stuff.....freecycle. :baby04:
God Bless you!!!!

If you don't go in to cattle and horses, two acres is large enough to grow enough food for whole community. If you lay black plastic over the soddy area you want for a garden, it will kill the sod, and make it easier to get started.

Congrats, way to go. The barn with power and water will become the most important asset you have. You are lucky to have alot of options with the extra building, for storage and animals.

Clear plastic over the garden area initially will sterilize the soil and allow the seeds that are dormant to germinate in early Spring. Afterward, under the clear plastic, the plants will die and you will have less competition from unwanted weeds when you do plant..
