ice smells like garlic??

I work for a lady and her ice (she has an ice maker) smells just like bad garlic to me!! Is this bacteria? mold? Not sure if it is town water or from the nursing home's well/reserve? I don't notice it every time I get the ice but some days it is so bad I can smell it on my hands and it drives me crazy...Thanks

I would like to know also.

It is something I have noticed in some ice from icemakers.

Years ago, my icemaker smelled like that and tasted bad also. The trays were aluminum and I thought that might have something to do with it - but I have noticed it in others also.

We put one of those little filters on our icemaker, and didn't notice it.

I would suggest taking it all apart and soaking the parts in vinegar. Also running vinegar through the piping might help too.

Every now and then, my ice cube trays the the holder will get a "funny" smell. I soak it all in hot vinegar and it removes the smell.

Rinse well.

What Ardie said. We had the same problem with our other fridge...it basically means that the impurities in the water are starting to adhere to the parts. Cleaning them well should remove that smell.

It could be related to the location of the garlic in her REFRIGERATOR - is the garlic stored near the water filter (if there is one) or air intake/output in the frig part?
