The fairly large trucking company I drive for used to heat the shop with the oil they gathered up from routine oil changes. Worked exceptionally well. These days they just call the waste oil company to come out and take it away to a hazardous waste cite at Lone Mountain, Oklahoma. I think the oil burner is not EPA friendly and I know of no place near Tulsa that could recycle it loacally. What a shame!

Probably different types but the ones I've seen use standard oil burner nozzles etc. extra filtering and compressed air, to help atomize the oil. Lots of energy in used oil just it's difficult to get the stuff to burn completely. I know in Ontario it's a code violation to try and heat a residence with one, but shops are OK.

Here's a link that might answer some questions. When we get a request for waste oil burners we sub-contract the work out to those that do it.Waste oil heat
