We had a fire!

Some time after 1 a.m. this morning (when hubby got home from work) our road frontage caught on fire. We planted trees there a year ago in a reclaimation program. I hope to goodness the trees are okay! Hubby and I walked around and found most of the trees standing. I guess only time will tell if they will put out when Springtime arrives.

Ohhh.... I am so sorry! I hope they all sprout this spring!
I am terrified of something like that happening here!

I am so sorry! I think it depends on haw large the trees are. Oct 05 I let a brush pile get out of hand & it burned our 3-4 back acres, neighbors back 5 ac & about 2 of THEIR neighbors' ac!

We had several tiny trees that we were babying along-planted as bare root 'sticks' and they all died. Larger trees came back ok, even some cedars.

I think you have to wait for spring & see.

These trees are hardwoods, about two foot tall...just babies. Only time will tell if they survive.

Yeah, we figure some bonehead threw a cigarette out the window.

Our idiots start fires around here when there is no humidity and 40MPH winds.Do it in the middle of the night mostly.

The trees will make it unless it was a large fire that burned them too deep.

I used to be a fire investagator and I have never had a cigarett burn anything. Usualy it is a match or a spark from something. If you go out and trace the fire back to the start point you can find out what started it. You do this by rubing your hand over the grass and since it will be burned in an angle you can trace it back to where it started. Grass burn in in an angle and will feel rough against the path it was taking and smoth in the way it ran.

If you beleive it was a cigartt light one and place it on a piece of paper see what happens.

We traced the start of the fire (based on the angle of the burned grass) to the side of the road. There was a pile of cigarettes there that look like someone dumped out an ashtray.

The area had a lot of dried weeds, especially sedge brush. With the trees, we can only bushhog around the edges (which hubby did in the late Fall). I'm just grateful it didn't spread to the adjacent 33 acres of trees!
