If you wanted to raise a million dollars...
If you wanted to raise a million dollars for a good cause (which would also benefit yourself of course), how would you do it? How would you convince people to give or donate?

Well, I guess I'd never have the goal of raising a million dollars. I might be called to do something to glorify the Lord that would take one million dollars of investment to accomplish, but I'd not set that goal for just me. Then, I suppose I'd give the Lord's project over to the Lord and ask Him to work the million dollars out, and He'd guide me in the way that it should happen.
By the by... I think it's highly unlikely that the process would occur or be blessed if any significant percentage were going to the person doing the Lord's work.
Or... as someone already suggested... if the desire is to have a million doallrs, create a religion that tolerates any point of view, makes people feel good about their lifestlye, regardless the content or effect of that lifestyle, one that makes everyone feel good and required nothing but a few pesos in offering with the promises of only a happy afterlife and no posible negative afterlife effects. That will make you rich in this life rather quickly.

If the cause is good enough, try to get a builder and suppliers to build a house, donate supplies and build a new home for the benefit of the advertising. Then sell raffle tickets at about 100.00 for a chance to win the house. Just one thought.

well you could open a church "The Holy House of Hemp" comes to mind.
though you'dlikely get more converts with The church of pompus hypocrits.
You could also manage raising a million by simply asking for a dollar ,all it takes is one out of 300 to give you a buck and you'll have a million.
if your a bit crooked you could sell diamond futures for $20 each then send each customer a piece of coal and directions .
If your a good lier you could go into politics.
If you dont mind being hated you could go into big business and screw everyone to get a head and make a buck.
(sorry the comments made were rather crude for the families forum)

Worthy cause? Ha.
Will the so called worthy cause benefit many people or the entire community? Will it be a non-profit endeavor? Will the end result be a for profit enterprise?
Will there be on going associated costs. Might another source of funding be available if one were diligent in seeking it out?
Depending upon what this is for--probably it would be best to form an organization of some sort to see that the monetary funds are properly handled to the end use.
Not sure what would warrant a worthy cause that isn't already being done---that sort of thing is what I would question if I was being asked to donate.

Yes. No. Yes. Yes. Very possible.

What he said. DH and I raised a million for our retirement through years of education (49 to be exact) and years of living way below our income.

Someone once asked me if I would rather have a million dollars or a million friends......
Without hesitation, I replied, "A million Friends!"
The questioner was flabbergasted! "That is very altruistic and honorable!" he said.
"Not really", I replied. "If I had a million friends, I'd borrow $2.00 from each of them.....then I'd have 2 million dollars!"

Most states require you to first register your charity, usually with the Secretary of State. That has to be your first step, and it's one I believe is important.

I'd get pennys, and drill holes through the middle of them. Sell them as copper washers for 26 cents each. Only 4 million pennys would gross you a million bucks. Hopefully the drilling scrap will cover opperating expenses.
Or get a job at Delphi in Kokomo In. Might take a while though.

Before he started his 'church' of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard said that if a person wanted to be a millionaire all he had to do was start a church...

Are you thinking of raising this money for your farm? I think I remember you mentioning that your farm is in trouble?
