Anybody use an LP chest freezer?

Seems to me either countryside or backwoods did a run down on this just an issue or two ago. I'll see if I can find the article. It covered several refrigerators and freezers.

More so than electric, the effectiveness of LP freezers really depends on the temperature of where they are at. We used one in Haiti at the mission house and it barely kept things frozen and really sucked up the propane big time. It was mid-sized and took several days to make ice cubes. That is my only experience with one.

We currently have a small lp chest freezer that works like a champ. Would have a bigger one if I could foot the purchase price. I did not notice a big jump in propane use so it must not use too much, we also have propane for cooking, frige, hot water, dryer as well as the little chest freezer. They do take longer to make the initial freeze I am told but then is very good at keeping all frozen. sis

We have a big one and it cost around $1800.00. It doesn't use an enormous amount of propane. It's in a shed and stays at about 10 degrees. We've never had any problem swith it and I'd say it works better than the electric one we have that cost a LOT less.

I checked our freezer. It is the 8.5 cubic foot Frostek and the temp stays regularly at -10. In the winter it used very little propane (it is in an unheated shed)...in summer about 50 lbs propane every couple of months.
