Inexpensive But Reliable Meat Grinder

Can anybody recommend a reliable and, hopefully, inexpensive meat grinder? Would be using to grind deer and make homemade sausages, brats, and the like. I'm looking for something that'll last more than a year or two.

If you already have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer I can recommend the grinder attachment. Ours works well and we've had it for about five years. It does the sausage from one pig and and hamburger for one or two deer every year.

I second that, you can get the attachment for grinding, stuffing sausage ect its great, and this time of year you can find them on sale. OR you can buy a rebuilt one, they are garuntee'd also!

I know that www.kitchencollections.com has them, thats where we got mine!

Which size Kitchen Aid do you have that you use your grinder on? I'm putting together a wish list and want to make sure I get on with enough "umph" to handle the task.

Not sure on the size, but I'll give a third vote that the grinder worked for us. I'd like to know if someone uses the food tray, the little tray that comes with the grinder won't hardly hold spit. I'll also add that while it works to grind up the deer and chicken I plan to get a different grinder to save the wear on the mixer. I planned on getting a tin plated manual grinder, but one with a pulley for a motor.

I have a kitchen aide attachment. Last year (black friday) bought a nice grinder at Cabela's, I think it was over half off, for $49. It sure beats the pants off the kitchen aid, not that the KA is bad, but when you have 50lb of meat to go through, it can take a long time. The small tray on the KA never bothered me, until I used a machine with a big tray.

This year we got a nice slicer more than half off on Black Friday. I couldn't afford to pay full price, but it was worth getting up early for the deals. They had pallets of them too, so it wasn't so bad getting them.

www.northerntools.com We got one with the stainless grinder head and have used it several years. It will grind as fast as you can feed it. I think we paid like 129 for it shipping and all. They have a good sel of others also. hope this helps. Tamsam

Just got one of these on ebay:

Haven't tried it out yet but it's nice and burly and I like that it has a big hopper to put large chunks of meat into.
Take care~

try Tractor Supply

if you have one near you. They have a model with a fairly big hopper (bigger than my Kitchenaid) for about 70 bones. Supply varies from store to store. Right now hunting and Christmas supplies should be in decent stock.

Ours is from the Sausage Maker. I know that shipping would probably be costly, but we live within an hour, so it's not a problem for us to pick up. We buy spices there too.

Have you tried asking on your local freecycle? I'm sure there are plently of people with an old meat grinder in their basement just sitting there looking for a new home.
