Trading pocket knives at the courthouse green

A while back I read of a small town in Kentucky where once a week the old timers would gather in the town square and swap pocket knives along with friendly conservation. Do they do anything like that where you live?

Talking

Hubby just said they used to do this at the courthouse, LOL. Graves County courthouse, to be exact.

When I was little, there was a bench "downtown" in the little town where I grew up.......they called it "Liar's Bench," all the old coots would go there and whittle. I imagine pretty much all the old towns in KY had that going on...

LOL

We have whittlers that sit on benches up at the courthouse. Just a bunch of old men talking and whittling.

Talking Whittling away at your good nature...........

Boleyz probably does that at his cabin, that's probably the real reason he built it way out in the sticks.

He can't be seen by passersby; whittling, muttering jibberish to himself........

bwahahaha

I have never heard of this before, what a great idea!

I'd love to see something like this in the state of WA. We could gather on the courthouse property and exchange firearms, knives, assault weapons etc! That would unquestionably cause the libs in this state to have heart attacks. Hardy, Har, Har, Har...

The little counrty store down from my Grandad's house was the local old farts hang out. There was a wood stove that was red hot in the winter. The seats were old school bus benches. The only thing not coverd in a inch of dust were the drinks and nabs.
They always "pulled for cokes". Back then when you got a short Coke-a-cola bottles it had where the bottle was made on the bottom. When you pulled with someone the person with the one made farest away won. The loser paid for both.

They used to do it at the Monroe County, KY courthouse as well. It was a kick seeing a bunch of old men swapping stories with a big pile of wood shavings at thier feet.

Yeah, old men do sit around in front of the courthouse here. I'm not sure what all the do,other than yack and look at every woman that walks by
My Grandpas and my Dad always did trade around for knives and guns. Nearly every gun or knife my Dad owns has a story to go along with it
