Talking Building my House and Farm (Pics)

Here Are some Artistic renderings of me building my farm and home on unimproved land.

We started with a fence...Building my House and Farm (Pics) - Homesteading Questions

Then, we needed a house plan, so I sketched one out...

Next, came a LOT of dozerwork.

Gravel for the Drive was necessary to keep from working in constant mud.

Next, came cement for my floating foundation and slab floor.

Here's how it looked nearly finished, we've since finished it and lived in it for a year now. You can see that it looks nearly exactly like my original scale sketch...

My "Paint Program" artwork is sometimes mistaken for actual photographs. I'm glad you guys had the ability to recognize it as an artist's rendering of some actual events.

I wouldn't want to confuse anyone...

I have dial up so things like this load slowly. The delay made them much, much funnier. Glad I didn't have coffee in my mouth!!!! The one with you watching the dozer waiting to write the check is great and the last one is really cute. But the real photo looks great too, love that balcony!

Hey this looks almost exactly like when we built our house ! ! The only differences are: we were smiling during the dozer work - my brother did it aka-good deal and our house is only one level (way cool house of yours BTW)

and . . . it seems you guys are a bit thinner than my dh and I . . . perhaps we need to start cutting the calories.

great job -

Your "Instinks" are safe with me...I offered the explanation that they were not photos in the interest of "Full-Disclosure".

We love the Balcony too. We do a lot of entertaining and cooking out there.

Thanks Jnap...sometimes it's nearly a curse to have so much talent...people are constantly asking me for portraits and such things...

You were indeed lucky to have a Kinfolk-capable dozer man. Actually, I came out pretty good, since one of my best friends in this world has a dozer, gravel and backhoe business.

As far as our thin-ness...Remember that most artwork is an idealized image. Self-portraiture in particular is rarely unflattering to the artist. Ideally, we "See" ourselves as thinner than we actually are...

All of my postings are "Public Domain" and you're free to use anything I've posted. Good luck on your new adventure!

Thanks FM. I've never tried to sell my work, but I'm sure there would be a large demand for it if I decided to go that route. Yeah, the Cabin is Great! My Brother and I spent a week there deer hunting a couple weeks ago. 4 deer in the freezer now. I'm going back for muzzle-loading in a week or so.

Actually, no, they are not true satellite images. I'm not lying...it really isn't.

Thank you for your concern, but we're actually in good health. Again, artistic renderings sometimes reveal idealizations of the actual truth.

Sadly, I don't have many pictures of the construction. The lower floor was supposed to be an 8" poured wall on the house plan, and then it was supposed to be buried as a basement.

After we poured the slab, I said, "Ya know what? I ain't gonna push dirt up around my house and create mold/dampness/drainage nightmares"

So...instead of poured walls , we framed the ground floor with 2 X 6 stud walls, in order that they might provide a sturdy support for the 2 X 4 framing on the upper floor and a half.

The attic space is actually 2 bedrooms (large) and a bath. The kids live up there. The window on the top fron actually looks out of my little kid's bedroom.

The first floor contains a large creekrock fireplace with gas logs and a large room for my wife's photography. It also has a full bath, laundry room and large back room with a back door that we use for office/storage space.

The second floor where the deck is has the kitchen/dining/living room in one large area and a huge master suite with large closets that actually hang out 4' off the back and have a storage shed on the ground-level under them.

About 2400 sq. feet of living space. 2 sets of stairs though, so sme people see that as a drawback, but we like it.
