Consumer Reports most reliable vehicles

http://money.cnn.com/popups/2006/aut...x.html?cnn=yes

No big surprises. Toyota & Honda (& their offshoots Lexus & Acura) heavily represented in most reliable vehicles in most categories.

A small handful of domestic vehicles manage to get included in the most reliable list.

Least reliable vehicles made up largely with domestic/German vehicles.

Isn't it about time to march those execs of General Motors/Ford/Chrysler off to the gallows or are we going to watch them run the domestic vehicle industry down the crapper?

There are some bright spots...if you look for them. Some of the best vehicles were made in America, just not by American companies. That says that American laborers working with good parts and sound management can build excellent cars.

When researching a new or used vehicle, I like to review not only Consumer's Report, but also Edmunds.com and J.D. Power. If all three line up in their testimonials (either for or against) for a car, you probably have a good indicator about the car's prospects.

It was glad to see the Pontiac Vibe, and the Ford Fusion (and Mercury counterpart) on the list of good choices.

Without fail this will bring out the conspiracy types. If I had a dollar for every time I have heard or read, "those guys are paid off by the foreign car industry, my (place vehicle name here) is the best car I ever bought, and they do nothing but write negative reviews on it". Sorry, but i just ain't so, the bottom line is they use statistics based on testing, and surveying thousands of vehicle owners. The numbers don't lie, but a lot of people don't handle the truth real well. It'a amazing that GM and Ford can build some highly recommended cars, and some absolute junk, but Consumer reports is out to get them. The problem with this conspiracy theory is that they have also pointed out that VW, Nissan and Mercedes have quite a talent for building junk also.

Some of the consumer surveys themselves can have misleading responses from the consumers. Example: the german cars have been rated worse the last few years due to their electrical complexities. A lot more to go wrong. However, consumers have stated having problems with different areas in these cars simply because they don't understand them. Mercedes' COMAND system can be very frustrating to learn (COMAND controls radio, cd player, navigation system.) The same goes for BMW's system which is even more difficult.

quality

I had heard on the news that the <new big 3 <Toyota,Honda,Nissan,> Have been disappointed in the cars made in america as far as quality, Or that there quality was not as good as what it had been when they were not produced in the united states ,I don,t know if its true or not but I am sure they have the quality control records to back it up and also the vehicles that come back to the dealers with problems as compared to before they were built here , per so many thousand sold.
