Cut Fences?

The trespassiing thread is sorta going in lots of directions.A question that comes up is what about fenceing? How many of you have had fenceing cut? What type was it? Was it in good repair? Have you ever put up a fence to stop trespassers? how did that work out?

Back in 2000 I had 25 acres of Electric fenceing cut, And half of it was missing. I think deer hunters did it. The fence charger was missing too.

One night years ago, I'd gotten up around 2 a.m. for a bathroom call. I happened to notice lights through the blinds so I went to the living room to investigate. Truck lights came up to and stopped at our fence (posts and barbed wire). As I was watching, the guys got out of the truck, cut the fence, got back in the truck and drove down our private road to the highway.

What happened was, they'd left their dogs on some property next to ours. It had been raining, they didn't have a road and had to drive in the mud. They decided to shortcut to the highway via our property, rather than drive back through the mud. We couldn't prove anything as we couldn't get their license numbersin the dark, but we knew who it was. He's never been back since. If I or DH could've gotten the shotgun fast enough, they'd have been driving on 3 tires.....or less.

We just bought some land that has barbed wire fencing on each side. One small section was cut just enough for a quad to fit through. One of the first things we did was to repair that area. We put a HUGE amount of neon pink ribbon on the wire. We then went to a neighbor on the street that we noticed had a quad to introduce ourselves and to tell him what we did. (Just last month I went to a funeral of a student that was killed when he went on private property. He had permission to be on it at one time but did not realize the land was sold. The new owner had put up a chain on the opening) I did not want anything like THAT to happen, but we also didn't want tresspassers on the property we had worked so hard to attain. It was important to us that the neighbor(s) understand that overdoing it with the ribbon was for THEIR protection and not because we were being -----e$.

We had a fence cut by a neighbor. It was 4 strands of barbwire on locust posts. It was set about 5 foot back from the property line. It wasn't in good enough shape that I would use it for penning in livestock but it wasn't down either.

The reason he cut it was so he could cut across our property with his buggy/wagon (Amish) rather than having to go the long way around (to where he wanted to get)and have to travel on a main county road. No longer an issue as he moved away. Asked his (middle aged) son afterwards and he told me that he had warned his father to ask first and get permission.

Fences don't always make good neighbors:

kenuchelover started a thread about this later (but not much later)

Well, they probably knew they were caught as we'd turned on the yard lights, etc. But for all I know, the guy's in prison or dead....from what I understand, he was a loser, didn't work much, etc.
